So what determines ‘similar’. What determines similar is who they cooperate and reproduce with. In other words the full expression of the genotype from morp > pheno > etc.

I mean, humans – at least human males who are desperate – try to copulate everything from trees, to chickens, to rabbits, to monkeys, to sheep to cows to horses. I mean. it’s not a preference but desperation (stress). Other animals don’t even have the capacity to choose it.

And they mate by their means of detecting fitness. But reproductive fitness is relative to stress.

There are more than barriers. One of the barriers is ability to detect fitness unfitness. All species develop mating signals (fitness) that (expensively) demonstrate fitness.
Fitness is always caloric.

So it’s not that the definition is wrong its that as agency increases adaptive opportunity increases (experimentation), and humans rarely get the opportunity to speciate. The races ending with ANE’s are the last. Europeans are a recent hybridization of many ice age advantages.

Stress vs Opportunism. We see this in the data from dating and marriages today. Races have different market values, and the margins intermix. In doing so both gain. The overlaps are predictable (15%) asian-white, hispanic-white, black-Hispanic and the extreme of black-white etc.
