—“I think that it is demonstrably possible to rely upon mysticism for moral training given the proper circumstances & incentives, but that the construction of moral order by use of lying & fictionalism (via positiva) is exponentially more costly than suppressing immoral actions [including false testimony] by use of testimony & law (via negativa).”— James Augustus

the point I want to get across is *what are the social consequences of mass production of mindfulness by each means?* And the answer will be not ‘kind’ to mysticism.
each form of government produces order with different externalities. each form of ethics produces behavior with different externalities. each form of training for mindfulness produces behavior with different externalities.
What are the consequences of obtaining mindfulness by the different methods advocated in each civilization?
What does that tell you?

MALE AND FEMALE LIFETIME STRATEGIES
Except for the upper 1/2 of 1% of men, women are far more scarce for men than men are for women.
And 1/3 of men have little or little or no market value at all.
More than half of women are not insignificantly crazy.
For men, children and women are an investment, and without them your life will be shorter and the later parts of it far less pleasant if not sad. If you have to choose, have as many children as you can pay attention to. You can trade women. But you cannot trade children.
It is easier for women to find work in the easy and clean jobs, and easier for men to find work in the hard and dirty jobs.
It is easier for women to integrate into new social groups as they get older.
It is far harder for men to integrate into social groups as they get older.
It is hard for women to ‘get things done’ as they get older.
It is hard for men to take care of themselves as they get older.
We are desperately short of men’s monasteries, secular monasteries, and regimental barracks (monasteries) than we need to be. And those changes can only occur if we are able to employ right of disassociation (requiring very specific kinship ties for membership)

I still find it funny how a single a–hole can ruin your team, and remove all interest and motivation to work. The problem is distinguishing between people who are contributing constructive criticisms for the benefit of the team, and those who are feigning such in order to free ride on that team and obtain their own – and very different – objectives.

TODAY’S EXCERPT OF CHOICE
(from chapter “Reforming the Academy”)
—“It is in the nature of the incentives of Educators to strive to make men witty and cunning, rather than to strive to make them moral and wise. If in no small part, because they desire to be entertaining, desire to circumvent defense of their weak arguments, any challenge to which would undermine the students’ suspension of disbelief in their mastery of the subject.
And because those who are instead moral and wise, choose more ethical, moral, and profitable careers. Education is no less sacred a ritual than any other. But it is performed by the least sacred of means. Otherwise they would warranty their product as does every other profession other than the priesthood and the politician.”—

I know Montaigne said it first, but I have found it to be true: that others generally think ill of us for things we did not do, did not intend, or had no incentives to do, or had completely different intentions and incentives. Yet those things we do that are intentionally unethical, immoral, and evil so much more frequently go unnoticed. People criticize what they see. They too often imagine ill behind what they see. Because they project upon others their own intuitions. All the while, blind to the incentives, and the consequences they don’t see.

CRITICIZING MATERIALISM: FOR GOOD OR BAD REASONS?
Well, you know, criticizing materialism as a substitute for the familial (reproduction) is logical. For the social, likely. For the religious and supernatural, nonsense. In fact, there is a high correlation between social rejection and religiosity for precisely those reasons. So when I hear people want ‘traditionalism’ hear they are socially incompetent and want a way to enter the dream state in public – the ultimate selfishness – spiritual masturbation. They are generating demand for a bad. When I hear people talk about loneliness, loss of the civil society, or being unfulfilled by material goods, I hear that they long for social participation, or the safety of family and clan, then they are demonstrating demand for a ‘good’. Participatory sport, participatory debate, participatory theatre, participatory sacrifice (donation to the commons) and personal commune with the gods, with emphasis on ritual assist in social trust and bonding.

I’d argue that the monetary system we have based on credit, e.g.; mortgages, loans, higher-purchase etc, is in part (and possibly in whole to the poor) the abolition of private property. At the macro level, the point at which money is created with a debt attached, does that ‘loan’ allow us to ever truly own anything?

MATURITY
1) In the family we subsidize one another.
2) In the community we cooperate with one another – at least to the point where we do not impede each other.
3) In business we conduct a cold war by competition for customers.
4) In internal politics we conduct a warm war with the possibility of rebellion or revolution if we fail.
5) In international relations we conduct a continuous hot war that we try to keep as cold as possible.
Only children try to extend the family and community to business, politics, and international relations.
There are a lot of children. Especially women.
