Did you msg me about the Ottomans?

Someone wrote to me about the Fall of the Ottomans the other day. Could you comment below? I want to put together a course that consists of a bunch of videos by individual instructors rather than just one, on the general message in both that book and Buchanan’s book on churchill, and maybe the german and russian perspectives.

    Thanks

    (SITE UPDATE:

1 – The bug in the “Apply” course has something to do with bad data. Apparently the underlying code is very unforgiving of changes to the courseware content – meaning, that it doesn’t clean up after itself very well and breaks if you aren’t logged in. That said, hopefully I’ll get this bit up and running shortly.

2 – The difficulty with the home page’s text on mobile is going to try my patience. I will fix it when I have patience. I don’t have patience right now. In fact, I have to go to the studio and fix the over-complicated-overpriced-oversized theatre’s audio visual stuff at the moment which is gonna end my patience for the day. lol

3 – Apparently I’m going to get the proposals for the WAR courses rather shortly.

4 – I heard from KMAC on the Group Strategy Course material and he says he’ll look and get back to me. Either way I’m pretty sure he will review the material for us.

    “EXHAUSTING”

    by Rosenborg Predmetsky

It’s just as I’d said in a previous post: Curt’s posts can be exhausting to read, but for the exact opposite of why continental philosophy is exhausting to read: The first is exhausting because so much substance is compressed in so little, whereas in continental philosophy, so little is enshrouded by so much.

    by John Mark

YES. When I found Curt the experience was the opposite of when I tried to read philosophy.

Philosophy: “There’s got to be something worthwhile in here somewhere.”

Curt: “OMG I could spend an hour thinking about each paragraph.”

(CD: these guys made my day. not because of my ego. But because when someone understands, I feel ‘validated’ – because the hard work did some good and I didnt end up just writing to myself. Moreover, it means they are becoming leaders – so I don’t have to… lol. 😉 )

  • A LAW DEGREE MIGHT HINDER YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF PROPERTARIANISM by Daniel Roland

A LAW DEGREE MIGHT HINDER YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF PROPERTARIANISM

    by Daniel Roland Anderson (law)

Depending on one’s academic and personal background, a law degree does significantly more harm than good when it comes to understanding Curt’s work. (Math, Engineering, and Philosophy majors can help. English Lit, Sociology, and Political Science will hinder.)

Mostly, a law degree hurts, because one learns to conflate legislation and regulation with actual law—which you won’t learn in law school at all.

And the version of Common Law schools teach (pilpul) will definitely do more harm than good because reciprocity has no role in the process, unless learning how to circumvent, distort, denigrate, and subvert reciprocity counts as a “role.”

    Law schools excel at this.

Also, Dunning-Kruger will be an issue for most law school grads.

The situation is actually worse than I’m making out, but I’m spending some time with a friend who grew up working in the fields with me, so I’m in a good mood.

This kid just turned 32 and intuitively grasps the basics of Curt’s work very, very quickly.

He graduated high school with a 1.7 GPA, played a little college football and then never held an 8-5 job—opting instead for work where results determined income 100%. He’s trained people and started businesses and is raising a family.

He has a real law degree. 😉

  • The Institute: Our Purpose

(Note: Preserving a bit of history: this was our institute’s mission statement as a think tank. Our new mission as an educational institution is to distribute rather than just research.) [T]o convert western aristocratic egalitarian philosophy into rational and scientific terms: Anglo Conservatism is the remnant of the European Aristocratic Manorial system and the Classical Liberal philosophy of the Enlightenment combined with our ancient indo-european instincts for group persistence and land-holding: truth-telling, the jury, and heroism. This philosophy – which separates the west from the rest – currently consists as a set of sentiments rather than as an rationally articulated philosophy expressed in scientific terms. And without that rational articulation, conservatives lack the ability to create and promote a plan that is a positive and rhetorically defensible alternative to the hazards of accidental bureaucracy and purposeful socialism. This lack of an articulated philosophy leaves conservatives vulnerable in the public debate with Schumpeterian public intellectuals whose advantage in both volume of production, and simplicity of argument poses a nearly insurmountable challenge. Propertarianism solves this problem of supplying a necessary, sufficient, and formal articulation of western aristocratic egalitarianism in ratio-scientific language, and the means by which to restore our civilization to its competitive advantage: Truth Telling Suppression of Free Riding, and The Construction of Commons, embodied a formal, logic, of law.
