As some of our Services may be software that is downloaded to your computer, phone, tablet, or other device, you agree that we may automatically update this software, and that these Terms will apply to such updates.     Using The Institute Software

    Who May Use our Services You may use our Services only if you can form a binding contract with The Institute, and only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws. When you create your Institute account, and subsequently when you use certain features, you must provide us with accurate information, and you agree to update your information to keep it accurate. Our License to You Subject to these Terms and Policies we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable license to use our Services. You may download content from our Services only for your personal, non-commercial use, unless you obtain The Institute’s written permission to otherwise use the content. You also agree that you will create, access, and/or use only one user account, and you will not share with any third party access to or access information for your account. Using our Services does not give you ownership of any intellectual property rights in our Services or the content you access.

    Our Courses

    Course Modifications While we take pride in our content, unexpected events do occur. Coursera reserves the right to cancel, interrupt, or reschedule any course or to modify any course content or the point value or weight of any assignment, quiz, or other assessment. Courses offered are subject to the Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability sections below.

    Your Content

    User Content The Services enable you to save your content, such as homework, quizzes, exams, projects, and other assignments you submit, posts you make in the forums, and the like (“User Content”), with the Institute, instructors, and/or other users. You retain all intellectual property rights in, and are responsible for, the User Content you create or share. How Coursera and Others May Use User Content The Institute shall only use your User Created Content for the purposes of improving our courses, contributing to our knowledge base, our literature, or minor promotional material.     Governing Law and Jurisdiction

    The Services are managed by The Institute, which is located in Middlesex County Connecticut. You agree that any dispute related to these Terms will be governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, excluding its conflicts of law provisions. You further consent to the personal jurisdiction of and exclusive venue in the federal and state courts located in and serving Middlesex County, Connecticut as the legal forum for any such dispute.

    General Terms

    Although we do not routinely screen or monitor content provided by users, we may remove or edit inappropriate content or activity reported to us or suspend, disable, or terminate a user’s access to all or part of the Services. You Aren’t Allowed to: Do anything that violates local, state, national or international law or breaches any of your contractual obligations or fiduciary duties. Share your password, let anyone access your account, or do anything that might put your account at risk. Attempt to access any other user’s account. Reproduce, transfer, sell, resell, or otherwise misuse any content from our Services, unless specifically authorized to do so. Access, tamper with, or use non-public areas of our systems, unless specifically authorized to do so. Break or circumvent our authentication or security measures or otherwise test the vulnerability of our systems or networks, unless specifically authorized to do so.     Privacy Statement Your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. For this reason the we make every effort to protect all information collected. At no time is information collected shared with third parties. We host all information in the site database except for email, and avoid the use of third parties at all times. This Privacy Policy describes our policies regarding the collection, use, and protection of information provided through:

    1. Online collaboration: use of our social media platform, forums, chat, and messaging.
    2. Email communications: inquiries submitted via email (Vendor: Gmail)
    3. Subscription requests: requests to receive one or more digital distributions. (Vendor: Gmail)
    4. Course registration: information provided when registering to take an online course.
    5. Event registration: information provided when registering to attend an offered event.
    6. Store: information provided when ordering merchandise from our store.

But it will take us a while to produce the content for each discipline – hopefully we will recruit experienced authors to do so. Hopefully we will turn some of you into teachers. ‘Cause it’s gonna kill me to do more than just the law series. )

    Religion is just education. that’s all. Period. The ‘trick’ of both church and state is to claim church does no education, or that state education is sufficient.

    We need training in physical fitness, mindfulness, manners-ethics-morals-rituals (payments to the commons), the laws, the means of calculating that we think of as the 3R’s, the skills to run a household, and the skills for employment.

    It does not, as it once did, provide for physical fitness.

    It provides mindfulness in the personal, interpersonal, and public spheres of life.

    It provides the some of the manners, ethics, morals rituals that are the positive laws of the social order (not negative laws as is law proper).

    It provides a venue for public contract making (this is my child, this is my promise to the community, this is my mate, this is our property, this person has died and his or her property may be distributed).

    It is, to some degree, a computational necessity – meaning that it is very bad not to have that mindfulness.

    It provides child-level parables and myths which are no less a form of calculation about action in the world than are laws, logic, and mathematics.

    But there is no reason we cannot have lessons, parables and mythos and histories for each class of people at each stage of their lives, all of which contain the same messages.

    There is no reason the church rather than the school, post office, or library is not still the center of civic life, and that government is not relegated to the production and maintenance of material commons, just as we keep commerce out of religion.

    So I think I have most of this figured out – not that I am interested in the content in and of itself, but that I understand how to frame the problem, and restore the incentives, such that the second abrahamic dark age does not capture our people.

    There is nothing false in ritual thanks to one another, to our ancestors, to those who made our existence possible, to the natural world, to the universe, and to the universe’s god – in whatever form that might be.

    There is nothing false in their parables, their myths, their histories other than their ignorance and vulnerability of time and place.

    (I know the religion thing is painful but I am very close to finished with it. Most people want a new religion. I want to restore the church and family as the central institution of our society, and eliminate the state-finance-consumption sector as a means of preying upon our people. To make that work requires another reformation. Not to the exclusion of the protestant one. But to restore a religion for OUR people. And it doesn’t mean I have to invent it. I just have to put the box around it to protect whatever is there. So i’m sorry if it’s offensive but it’s got to be done. Even atheists have a religion, they just can’t articulate it as one. And the one we have is dying along with the next generation.)
