    You see, they swarm through an urban area, shoot out the transformers or short the wires with chain, turn on then break the hydrants eliminating water pressure, start interior fires in every building they pass. Hammer open the cash machines, load up on food from the markets, and entrap and decimate first responders, and then just keep moving. Amidst the chaos they empty the banks, and with sufficient numbers take the armories. It’s when they’re dramatic rather than practical that they lose. Now, they had a minimum of 30k men, and possibly a maximum of 200k men. What do you think would happen with one, two, or five million men? There are four hours of power, maybe three days of water, five to seven days of food, and without electronic transfers and distributions, millions of malcontents with pent up anger and ready violence to exacerbate the chaos. If men spread out into a small number of large groups in a series of cities it will take less than three weeks. Revolutions are always suspect in prospect but deterministic in retrospect. And those are just the revolutions that are unplanned. The era of state warfare is over. They have proven it. There has never been a civilization more fragile, and a government so weak.

    Humans hit each other. I have had to teach every woman in every relationship not to hit me. Women conduct more domestic violence than men.Women are responsible for more verbal abuse than men. Women are responsible for more child abuse than men. The difference is that they aren’t dangerous – and men are. So, while I don’t do it, and I’m not cool about it, I’ve seen too many men take hits to the face from women that should have been slapped. I can definitely see slapping each other, which has been the method we used throughout history to say ‘ok, this is across the line’. And I’m not sure the world is better off without slapping each other once in a while. Why? Because slapping tends to de-escalate, and persisting in argument tends to escalate. Conflict is best settled early and clearly rather than continuously escalating through verbal and situational abuses.

    But when you state it as “200 rounds” people get a better idea of how few rounds that is. And Americans still too frequently run down on ammunition in a defensive firefight.

I was a combat medic in an infantry unit deployed to a high tempo battlezone. We rolled outside the wire at least 5 days a week and often multiple times a day. About 1/4 of those would see some degree of combat. I carried a 30lb lite aid bag in addition to 10 magazines on my rack and drop pouches. Additionally my hot mag was a double and my main aid bag stayed on our vehicle with another 4 mags along with 65 lbs of medical gear. Long range patrols and extended ops were a bitch for me but after running out of ammo in one fight everything changed. I started dropping other gear from my load and replacing everything I could with composite material. I carried more than anyone but the squad gunner but it came in handy for others as well.I can function for 2 days without water. I can survive almost a week without food. My life expectancy in a firefight while out of ammo isn’t shit. In combat every bullet is a chance to save a life.”— Anon.

    In other words, he carried, 60 round hot mag, 10 30 round mags and 4 spare 30 round mags. 60 + 300 + 120 = 480. (My estimate of defensive ammo reserve from everything I’ve read is 600 rounds per man), and also from what I’ve read, no less than double that for a light machine gunner.

    Patrol is very dangerous. It’s searching for the enemy by presenting yourself as a target (bullet magnet). I prefer the Russian method: saturate the ground with artillery, roll in with equipment, destroy anything standing, kill everything that moves, and mop up the remainder on foot. The best way to hold territory is when everything other than you is pebbles, soot, splinters, or dead.

If we have rule of law, markets will develop, and we can redistribute some amount of the proceeds. All economies have always been mixed and always will be.
