  • CRITIQUE OF DEMOCRACY By Tim Abbott —“Democracy leads to tyranny. Democracy is

    CRITIQUE OF DEMOCRACY

    By Tim Abbott

—“Democracy leads to tyranny. Democracy is drunk with the concept of freedom. As result the rulers must flatter the citizens, must please the citizens. The teacher must entertain the desires of the citizens. What results from this is the demagogue. The supreme flatterer, captivates the imagination of the majority of the citizens. Eventually this person becomes a tyrant.”—From the Republic

An oligarchy disenfranchises its own citizens. Democracy emerges from the oligarchy. The poor rise up in revolt and easily topple the oligarchs because the oligarchs were unwilling to invest in a good army. The democracy is established. It has four qualities, it affirms freedom, privacy, equality, and diversity.

The democratic individual is the son of the oligarch, who is the father. The oligarch tells the son to be frugal. “All those things you say you want you really shouldn’t want. Don’t spend money. Devote yourself to the same pursuit I’ve devoted myself, mainly the pursuit of money.” The son knows the father is very wealthy. The father is unwilling to invest in education of his own son. His son is therefore undisciplined. His son is intoxicated in unnecessary desires. The desire for food when hungry, the unnecessary desire is courtesans, perfumes, art. The democratic son of the oligarch is wild at heart because he has been deprived of every pleasure even though his father could provide it because he is very wealthy. The son goes out to the city out on the streets and there he is exposed to chaos, desires and he becomes enthralled by all of them. This is the genesis of the democratic individual. Above all else the democratic individual is whimsical. We know why, he hasn’t been educated. The democratic individual above all else is hostile to all forms of authority.

The paramount value of democracy is freedom. An authority of any form is a threat to freedom. A democracy is a youth culture, it is hostile to an elder, to authority. In a democracy, teachers start to fear their students. Students are so undisciplined so hostile to authority that they can sometimes threaten teachers. There are many schools in the United States where teachers are afraid of their students, where students have to walk through a metal detector. Parents in a democracy have a hard time discipling their children and if the children are obstinate enough the parent may simply give up and allow the children to do what they want. This all has to do with in a democracy freedom has such value.

Our own democracy is a youth culture. The image of a young person is dominant in our media. Everyone wants to look young, thin, hate the idea of wrinkles, nothing is worse than looking old. Surgery, injection of drugs, all to prevent looking old. There is such a distaste for authority and tradition that there is no compelling reason to simply value the old only because they are old, in fact it is exactly the opposite.

To harken back to the parable of the cave. It is emphasized that the parable of the cave has to do with our own education and implies a great deal of pain. The prisoner at the bottom of the cave is shackled and must be liberated. The prisoner has been sitting in darkness for a long period of time, the prisoner must get up and look at the sun. This will be painful to get up after sitting so long and it will also be painful to look at the light after being in darkness for so long. The pain reflects the difficulty of learning, the student has to challenge conventional wisdom in order to think for themselves. This is the exact hard discipline that is missing in a democracy.

Democracy is excessively egalitarian. Isn’t that a self evident principle in our own society? If a person is wounded they should be treated, but if someone is chronically ill and has no hope of being restored to a healthy productive life they should simply be let go. Some human beings are more valuable than others, some human beings deserve medical treatment and others do not. A 90 year old man with Alzheimers is simply not equal to a 30 year old man who is healthy and strong. A doctor in our system, the objective is always the same, life and more life. There is no distinction between a life and a good life. All human beings are not equal, some are better than others.

Democracy is formless, chaotic. There is no stable conception that regulates us all and gives us a sense of what is a good life. There is in short too much freedom. Young people should not be given the choice to maximum their options, they should be told what to do.

    UPCOMING DEBATE WITH WALTER BLOCK

Apparently Walter Block and I are going to have a debate, arranged by Patrick Smith (the moderator and host of Anarchast.com http://Anarchast.com

    MY SUGGESTED TOPIC:

Justificationary Anarcho Capitalist Rational Philosophy versus Adversarial(falsificationary) Empirical Rule of Law of Reciprocity (natural law)

(its really a continuation of the eternal debate between Plato vs Aristotle) This is the underlying question that divides the libertarian community, and frankly we’re the only two people living and competent to have that discussion.

    BUT WALTER’S TOPIC:

“Is a state necessary for a just society”

(The very title of which explains the problem)

I don’t care the subject since no matter the framing the debate is the same.

    USUALLY THESE DEBATES ARE CANCELLED

Usually the ANCAP community rallies to stop any MI engagement with me (out of justifiable fear).

So I’ll keep y’all informed, but I pretty much expect the same.

NO ANARCHISM IS A FANTASY, RULE OF LAW IS NOT

—“Which kind of Anarchist are we talking about? There’s many varieties, though the most common, and commonly associated with the term, are Anarcho-Communists. The mental gymnastics required to create such an oxymoron as the combination of something that relies on the existence of a totalitarian government, and a total absence of government, makes it pretty obvious why it fails so damned always. Anatcho-Capitalists, of which I am a former supporter of, are extremely similar to Propertarians in many regards.”— Anon

    It doesn’t matter.

All humans universally demonstrate the minimum moral constraint that they can get away with.

People come together in proximity to reduce opportunity costs making the disproportionate returns on a division of labor possible.

The state evolves universally to suppress local parasitism, centralize costs, in exchange for the reduction of transaction and opportunity costs.

The use of taxation (fees for suppression free riding, socialization of losses, consumption of commons, parasitism and predation) to produce investments in the returns on commons (infrastructure, parks, etc) allows markets (polities) to compete with other polities for people, families, trade, investment, and those ‘top’ people who produce private excellences (mansions, shops) that as a consequence increase the returns on those commons.

The only ‘anarchy’ is in the ‘borderlands’ where one benefits from free riding on the productivity of those markets but doesn’t pay the cost of behavioral, economic, tax, political, conformity to the standards of those commons. Thats why the Russians moved the jews into the pale. Thats where anarchic ‘ethics’ if you want to call them that, come from. Women depend on men, men depend on each other, and together they depend on the organization provided by court, military, and state. But anarchists, like children, like women, are oblivious to the fact that men are required to create their choices, just like anarchist require states to create their anarchies.

That is why anarchies of any kind always exist in borderlands as subjects of states and empires.

States tolerate borderlands because ‘border people’ give the state plausible deniability for territorial possession (keeping territorial stock in inventory) without bearing a cost of investment in commons political organization, or even much defense.

Anarchic polities cannot compete to hold territory (scarce inventory) in competition with commons producers, since the returns on commons like the returns on cooperation and trade, are disproportionately advantageous.

In other words, you can’t have commons for free. If you want anarchy you’re left with Alaska, Siberia, and the south pole at present. And it will only get worse.

  • THE GREAT FILTER IS HERE – IT’S UP TO US. Money, like all capital, stores time.

THE GREAT FILTER IS HERE – IT’S UP TO US.

Money, like all capital, stores time. Stored time can be used to influence others. Liquidity of stored time reduces the opportunity and transaction costs. Labor has almost no value. It is rapidly approaching zero. The problem is even worse that you think.

I probably understand the foundations of cooperation (economics) as well or better than anyone living. I don’t think you understand. Its on the scale of the development of speech and multi-part tools. We are rapidly speciating and leaving ‘labor’ behind like we did neanderthals.

In fact, the tragedy is the western unification of the world over the past four hundred years, that interfered with existing speciation, and has the chance -now- of reversing european evolution. The Great Filter is obvious: ‘failing to leave behind those who must be left behind’.

The value of in-groups is that we don’t need to leave our own behind. but we cannot outbreed or allow invasion by those who do. Thats what happened in India and the middle east.

What serious economist has done an analysis on RBE?

None. Why? It’s not worth the time. Communism v999.

Do you have any idea how large the catalog of pseudoscientific economic proposals is? It’s in the heap. We must build institutions and processes for the humans we have.

The Genghis Khan Test of Philosophical Priors: “What is the first question of philosophy before you can ask any others? Why not commit su-cide? The first question of ethics? Why should I not k-ll you and take your things? The first question of politics? Why should me and mine not k-ll you and yours and take your things, women, and land.”

I know the latest science as well or better than anyone living. And it’s just the opposite. The marxist, neo-marxist, postmodernist false promise of freedom from physical natural and evolutionary law, via pseudoscience of the malleability of man and the promise of endless growth.

Haven’t you killed 100M people already with your false promises? Your pseudosciences, sophistries, denials, and deceits?

No? I know. You can’t help it. It’s a genetic defect. You’re burdened with female cognitive bias, of conflation of desirable with truth, undesirable with falsehood.

And to make it worse, you’re burdened with Dunning Kruger confidence, just as is the entire left. So between the two, the instincts that evolved so that women would continue to invest in their children regardless of cost, causes you to pursue infantile ideas b/c they’re desirable.

Read history. Learn Economics. Study the history of law and war. Read genetics. Read cognitive science. And only by the top 1% of researchers.

For you. Read Simon baron Cohen.

Nature Nurture and blank slate lost to genetics.

    Grow up.

    This is Childhood’s End.

    :TRUTH REGARDLESS OF COST”

I have to use the truth without compromise regardless of cost. We can make explicit tolerances and exceptions for the un-testimonial and irreciprocal, but we cannot violate reciprocity by stating untruths without violating the promise of the law: in-group reciprocity in display word and deed, regardless of cost. It doesn’t matter if we turn people away. If they are unfit for the truth, unfit for the physical, natural, and evolutionary laws, then they are unfit for transcendence into the gods we imagine – and must be either left behind, or ruled, so that they cannot prohibit our transcendence into the gods we imagine.
