    I was never as depressed about libertarians and their dogma as I am about continentals and their romanticism. It is one thing to be half wrong but rigorous and unemotional and another to be half right, but emotional and speaking nonsense.

    You can at least have an adult conversation with libertarians even if their logic does not correspond with the evidence. But you cannot reason with a conservative who relied upon introspection as if it’s reason.

    Genes do their work and we pretend that we are sentient rather than puppets.

    There are those who are learning;

    Those who are refining;

    Those who are seeking to cooperate;

    And those of us resolving conflict when meaningful, truthful and moral intentions fail.

    There are those who need virtue ethics;

    Those who need rule ethics;

    Those who need outcome ethics;

    And those who need objectively resolve conflicts in ethics.

    There are those of us seeing sustenance

    Those of us seeking reproduction

    Those of us seeking experiences

    And those of us seeking transformation

    Warriors pay costs

    Producers reap profits

    Priests and Politicians seek rents

    And those of us who seek to limit parasitism.

    Absolutely agree. I am not even sure that promise I made in church when I was twelve was an act of choice or one of determinacy.

    (Strange Dreams: I had a very long and vivid dream about spending the afternoon with Putin and a few other men over a game of cards. And while I can disassemble the dream into the day’s events that fed into it, what I am still struck by is the believability of the imaginary character. I have a recurring set of dreams that mix different universities, academics, and conversations into a set of related contexts that approach an alternate reality – usually where I am struggling to finish writing a chapter on one topic or another. This time we were in a hotel at a large rustic conference table, looking out at a snowy small port scene. )
