What is it about south american cultures that produces so many good libertarian thinkers? De Soto is obvious and Spanish, but why is it that there are so many young libertarians from south america? And the quality of thought is exceptional. At least compared to americans. 😉

SURVEY QUESTION – WHAT WOULD YOU PAY FOR X?

(To ask this question, I have to create enough of a procedural armature so that I an ask a question that has enough context so that it can stay on the rails.)

    ARMATURE

Just as a bit of a thought experiment, lets say that Texas were to secede. Under the new government, they eliminated all taxes except income taxes. And replaced all local services with fee-based, and privatized all services. Assume Texas issued its own currency (the STAR or something like that) backed by oil reserves. (allowing credit money.)

That US Constitution was rewritten based upon its original form with the 14th restored, and counties replacing states etc. And Original Intent was specifically stated. And equality was limited to equality under the law. Including language we now understand necessary for the security of individual property rights. Including a prohibition on common property in marriage (Dissolution by other than contribution must be pre-defined in a marriage contract.)

That retirement was provided by forced savings by every person, and that some portion of income taxes were used to fill everyone’s retirement accounts. Representation was still used, but it was lottocratic, and separated into three floors: tax payers from the upper 50%, and ‘the top 100’. (purpose being to keep taxes flat through incentives.) And a house of services. The government itself was prohibited from providing services. And any services that were provided must be paid for out of current income. And that all citizens, regardless of contribution, could participate in the house of services by lottocratic vote. The constraint on the house of Services is that it must get its money from the houses of Order. And that the house of Order must get its approval from the house of Services. These organizations pass contracts, not laws. These contracts explain the sources and use of funds, are of fixed, short, duration, and cannot be broken by later governments. In a perfect world some family with long Texas history would be voted into a position of hereditary monarch, with veto power, the ability to disband the government and call an election, and no other. Lastly, you had to participate in a swiss model militia that required all men be armed and fit for combat against invaders.

    QUESTION:

What percentage of your income would you be willing to pay to live in that society? In other words, assuming you might want something even more anarchic, but that this situation actually occurred, would you be willing to move there, and to encourage others to move there, for these conditions. And what amount of income tax would you be willing to pay ‘to get in?’

I have my own thoughts but I’m just curious what others think.

    LIBERTARIAN TERMINOLOGY QUESTION

    (Freedom vs Liberty)

Is it just my own selection bias in action, or has the term FREEDOM been sufficiently appropriated as to mean “Positive Freedom and liberty” and LIBERTY such that it currently means “Negative Freedom and liberty”?

It’s too bad we LIBERTARIANS don’t have such energetic literary activists who can put together a campaign to ‘reconstruct’ the meanings of liberty and freedom the way the marxists have, and by doing so appropriated our terminology: via editing, shaming and critique.

    LIBERTY IS DETERMINED BY

    1) The available means of production.

    2) The impact of the means of production on reproduction (family)

    3) The allocation of property rights between individual, family and commons to suit production and reproduction.

    4) The Freedoms and Duties we grant each other according to those rights, and the flexibility of altering those relations in response to changes in the means of production.

    5) The degree of rent-seeking (corruption) by leaders of the hierarchy or network of organizations that resolve conflicts and facilitate investments (ownership or government).

    6) The degree of contribution by individuals willingly paid to the extended family (commons) in exchange for status which increases their opportunities for mating, experience, and opportunity.

THE STATUS ECONOMY – THE OTHER INVOLUNTARY APPROPRIATION

(Government members obtain status as well as compensation and earners do not obtain status OR compensation. The need is to create status signals such that the earners are willing to contribute to the commons of their extended family. If instead, high tax payers were publicly identified and given political voice, if not political vote, then the world would be a very different place. But politicians fear this fact. And to some degree, the corrupt on both sizes are protected by their anonymity. Imagine a state of the union meeting where the top 500 taxpayers instead of 500 elected politicians, were required to give their opinions on the state of the union. )

http://www.lagriffedulion.f2s.com/sft.htmTHE COGNITIVE BIASES OF THE EMPIRICAL FIELDS?

    (question)

What is the difference in the the cognitive biases of the different disciplines?

    1) Engineering and engineers

    2) Computer science and computer scientists,

    3) Economics and economists (statistics)

    4) Physics and physicists

    5) Mathematics and mathematicians?

How would you stack-rank these five by:

    i) The weight given to understanding of human hubris vs human rationality?

ii) The use of obscurant versus operational language

iii) The use of platonist versus naturalistic language.

iv) The requirement that people adapt to new knowledge, versus adapt technology to suit the needs and wants of people?

    v) The tendency to favor statist versus libertarian solutions?

    ON IQ

Now, we have to understand some variations in the data. Mostly it’s a hierarchy of IQ. But Economists usually skew lower than the other disciplines because a) they are paid less, and b) the criteria for what is called an economics degree varies a lot. (It is very hard to make less than 100K as a computer scientist. It is very easy to make 150K. And not difficult to make 200K.) Given the damned rigor of the discipline I find this sort of thing interesting.

    DISCLAIMER

I am educated as a fine artist, in Art Theory. (The philosophy of art and art history). Essentially as an art critic. Art just isn’t generally good enough to critique any more. 🙂 Although the art-craft movement is still creative and beautiful. 🙂 The movie business is the great sucking sound for artistic talent in America. And art has become a lower middle class occupation with an upper proletarian work force. It is not in the least bit aristocratic.

Given the difficulty in constructing and maintaining lies, and the value of obscurant language in constructing the least detectable and most successful lies, what book would you recommend that could best, through study, teach one to lie?

Now, having made that estimation, what book has empirically demonstrated the greatest ability to teach people to lie?

Is there something to the fact that less intelligent people are more likely to consistently believe in magic (intentional causes)? That smart but ignorant people overestimate our capacity. And more intelligent people who are knowledgeable are afraid of HUBRIS?

I mean, does the ‘smart fraction’ theory simply mean that liberals are ignorant, and willfully ignorant, and libertarians are not? Or are liberals less intelligent (probably).

WHO TOLD ME ABOUT _BOUNDARIES OF ORDER_ AT PFS?

    (question)

Ok, so I have given it a second pass, and you know it’s just written romantically and worldly, and the whole (damned) justificationism of bringing in correspondence with nature is a useless mess. But honestly, that said, he did, as you’ve told me, do a pretty good job with it.

It’s still an appeal. I don’t want to make appeals. Appeals are a dead issue for libertarians. Moral diversity means we will forever fall on deaf ears.

But NECESSITY (they hayekian program, and the Hoppeian program) is something else entirely. It isn’t that we PREFER one thing or another, it’s that prosperity REQUIRES certain things and requires we DON”T DO other things.

Property is synonymous with morality. HOWEVER, the distribution of rights and rewards from property are determined by the structure of REPRODUCTION. As such, while economic and political thoguth iis NOT POLYLOGISTIC, it is POLYMORAL, because reproductive rights are DIVERSE AND IRRECONCILABLE except through PROPERTY RIGHTS.

Propertarianism is an evolution over current libertarianism because it has BROADER EXPLANATORY POWER and is not based upon PREFERENCE for liberty, but NECESSITY in balancing scarcity, production, and reproduction by making cooperation between heterogeneous moral codes POSSIBLE.

***For all intents and purposes, different family structures render us into behaving as different tribes, if not different species.***

We have no means of reconciling this difference. Because there are material differences between the gene pools.

So we must construct political systems, like the market, to allow for heterogenous investment and production, while doing what the market cannot: inhibit our willingness to cooperate because of free riding, privatization, socialization and rent seeking.

That is the one purpose we must put government to. Because privatizations of commons is indeed a problem that the market cannot on its own solve, at least, solve competitively.
