    ON SYNTACTIC PARSIMONY IN PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES

    Um. Your analogy to ordinary language is good. But you overstate the case.

    Given the history of the evolution of languages:

    (a) It is extremely unlikely that the arrow syntax will survive in current form;

    (b) it is not more readable and this has been demonstrated in every (of the hundred or so I’ve had to learn) language over the past five decades.

    And lastly (c), react/virtual DOM is a good idea, but it is terribly fragile, and the entire js architecture it depends upon is terribly fragile, and we should assume that the browser-as-OS and JS-as-language-of-browsers, will evolve as all other languages have evolved.

    Why? because we are all working on hacks to compensate for the slow development of browsers and js language because of standards committees.

    Meaning, the correct answer is closer to your original analogy: programing is simply a more operational language than we speak with in less operational and more experiential ordinary language, and as such the written words in both ordinary and operational language should be parsimonious without introducing opportunity for misinterpretation.

    Great code is readable, but does not require interpretation. Meaning it is parsimonious but not obscure,

    I have seen generation after generation of guys make the same claims, always to the same ends.

    THere is no difference between natural language and operational language, including the grammar and syntax other than programming langauges, by virtue of operational language, must consist of informationally complete statements, and natural languages can rely upon the audience using ‘guesses’ to fill in the informational gaps.

    Programming is communication with another person: everyone that follows you, using the limited vocabulary of the machine and its inability to infer missing information.

    This statement appears humorous but it is profound.

    Even if you do understand them, it’s irrelevant because you cannot change them.

    We only need understand that which we can use, change, or avoid.

    Understanding requires reason, but women are far less rational creatures out of evolutionary necessity, and as irrational creatures

    Rationality is necessary for crafts, hunting, war, and politics. Women live in a world of absorbing and reacting to events, not constructing possibilities.

    Raising offspring with other women is not a matter of supply but of demand.

    You do not need to understand women, just enjoy them, love them, try to make them happy if you can afford to maintain them, do favors for them to buy options on the future if you can’t, or avoid them and let them be women otherwise.

    This is a VERY WESTERN approach to women, in which they are free within the affairs of women, but not empowered to interfere in the affairs of men.

    Women can NEVER understand men because they cannot imagine our simplicity, our needs, or our severity. They can understand our feelings that are similar to theirs, but not our perceptions or our ambitions, or the feelings they do not share.

    The best we can do is love them – meaning accept them for what they are; and limit them – meaning prevent their externalization of harm to the tribe due to their impulses evolved for her and her offspring, just as we prevent the internalization of men’s harm to individuals within the tribe due to their impulses evolved for the world outside of it.

    And the best we can do for both is to pair off into couples and take care of the interests of the other. Because we are compatible if we are not equal, or even that similar.

    A young woman going thru puberty in a public school system, and without a team sport, without brothers, a strong father, the constant presence of her mother and perhaps grandmother, is no different from sticking a young man in a prison. Instead of developing her hyper sensitivity, while saturated by counsel and boundaries where her mind and energies are put to practical use, we send her to a prison (school) populated by the insane (fellow pubescent girls) with preachers (teachers) who lie to them about the nature of the world. Girls evolved to care for children as soon as they are able to care for themselves. They did not evolve to require reason, but to sense and equalize emotion and demand. The purpose of reason is to use fragmentary information to select from among those things we can imagine, those investments for our time, energy, and cellular damage, that produce outsized returns amidst various forms of risk. Young women within perception. Young men beyond perception. Young women and Young men need productive work during puberty, far more than they need further indoctrination. There is little value of school for more than four hours, and work for more than six hours. The purpose of all beyond that is political indoctrination and the consumption of human capital in exchange for increased taxation.

Everything you think about outside of your direct, physical experience, was put there by some ‘scribbler’. And in every era, there were legions who, like you, dismissed some scribbler, only to have his or her grandchildren live in a world created by his scribblings.

    You are neither able to introspectively observe the function of your mind, nor judge the content of the theories residing there, nor predict the potential of new explanatory powers provided by new theories that may replace them.
