THE WEST’S INCREDIBLY OPTIMISTIC RESPONSE TO SUFFERING

    by Tim Spillane

    (Note: the trials of achilles)

I came across a discussion by Joseph Campbell on the differences between the Western and Levantine interpretations of suffering- it’s a bit long but worth posting:

—“[In the Hellenic world] God is immanent throughout nature… science, therefore, deals with the material body of which God is the living spirit… God, the informing spirit of the world, is rational and absolutely good. Nothing, therefore, can occur that is not- in the frame of the totality- absolutely good. The doctrine… was reaffirmed by Nietzsche… where the word ‘good’ is read not as ‘comfortable’ but as ‘excellent,’ and a call is issued to each to love his fate: ‘amor fati’. Spengler also represents this view in his motto, adopted from Seneca… ‘The fates guide him who will, him who won’t they drag.’ It is a view derived rather from courage and joy than from rational demonstration: from a life of zeal and affirmation, beyond any kind of calculation. It leaves the Buddhist sentiment of compassion far behind; for compassion contemplates suffering. And Job’s problem also is left behind; for that too rests upon the recognition of suffering. In Seneca’s words: ‘Not what you bear but how you bear it is what counts.’ And again: ‘Within the world there can be no exile, for nothing within the world is alien to man.’

“’Great is God,’ declared the lame slave Epictetus: ‘This is the rod of Hermes: touch what you will with it… and it becomes gold. Nay, but bring what you will and I will transmute it to Good. Bring sickness, bring death, bring poverty and reproach, bring trial for life- all these things through the rod of Hermes shall be turned to profit… Thus should we ever have sung: yea and this, the grandest and divinest hymn of all- Great is God, for that he has given us a mind to apprehend these things, and duly to use them!’”

This is the incredibly optimistic response to suffering developed natively in the West, and it couldn’t be further from developments among the Abrahamics. Campbell goes on, “The ideal of indifference to pain and pleasure, gain and loss, in the performance of one’s life task, which is of the essence of this stoic order, suggests the Indian ideal of Karma Yoga described in the Bhagavad Gita… However, the Indian life task is imposed upon each by his class statues, whereas the Greco-Roman task is that recognized and imposed on each by his own reason: for God here is Intelligence, Knowledge, and Right Reason. Furthermore, the condition of ‘nirvana,’ disengagement in trance rapture, which is the ultimate goal of Indian yoga, is entirely different from the Greek ideal of ‘ataraxia,’ the rational mind undisturbed by pleasure and pain. Yet, between the two views there is much to be compared, and particularly their grounding in… ‘pantheism,’ which is fundamental… to India… and to the Classical world: against which the biblical view, whether in Jewish, Christian, or Islamic thought, stands in unrelenting, even belligerent, argument.

“Within a world that is itself divine… there is an epiphany of divinity in all sight, all thought, and all deeds, which- for those who recognize it- is a beginning and end in itself… Whereas within a world that is not itself divine, but whose creator is apart [as in the Abrahamic faiths]… one lives not simply to play the part well that is in itself the end, like the grapevine producing grapes, but, as Christ has said, ‘so that the Father may reward.’ The goal is not here and now, but somewhere else.” ––Occidental Mythology

TOURNAMENT SPECIES vs PAIR BONDING SPECIES

    by Candice Mary

Human beings have been shown to use both of these strategies, and studying different cultures, tribes and societies reveals that some use either one or the other consistently and others use both within the society, others lean towards one way or to the other, depending on the socioeconomic strata of the individuals involved.

    TOURNAMENT SPECIES

-Males have distinct and exaggerated physical characteristics that differ from Females

    -Males are larger than Females

-Males highly aggressive and compete with one another for dominance

-Females attracted to signs of health and strength. largest male in group, for protection.

    -higher testosterone,

-males have decreased life span vs women

    -Males have numerous sexual partners

-Females most often the only involved parent

    -male abandons females and offspring

    -very rarely produce twins

-distribution of offspring focused on fewer males of the group, but highest reproductive rate per male.

-Gene selection is via the dominant male combat first before mating then winner mates with ALL females

    PAIR BONDING SPECIES

-male and female more equivalent in size

(Think of animals that you cant tell gender vs the ones you can tell with a naked eye)

-women attracted to mates who are more like themselves, than their opposites

-females look for traits in males better suited for equal roles equal parenting unit

-females delay mating, first expect to be “courted”, to assess potential mate to prove he is dedicated, consistent, and will be a provider for offspring. (Female Birds act helpless to see how a mate reacts, if he’ll hunt for and feed her worms like a baby. Testing paternal instincts)

    -less testosterone among males

-Often females are a bit larger in size

    -twins much more common

-equal distribution of males having offspring

-females may get bored and sometimes abandon mate and offspring to find another partner to reproduce.

    (Women lose interest)

    REVOLUTION: “THE PLAN”
    (repost from september 2015)

Western Man is moral man, and moral men need:

1 – A Moral Justification for the application of Violence to institute change. (They are being lied to, and stolen from, and conquered systematically, and I explain how, why, and how to stop it.) (Ideologies require promise of actionable results within the current lifetime.)

2 – A Solution to Demand: a set of institutional changes (concentration of effort) (an expansion of the classical liberal legal order to suppress lying, wishful thinking, bias and error in matters of the political commons; and a reconstruction of the houses of government as a market for the voluntary construction of commons.)

3 – A means of transition from one order to another. (An ordered means of rapid transformation within the status quo.)

4 – A set of tactics for raising the cost of the status quo: insurrection via: nullification (gradual disempowerment and transition to new government), secession(construction of a new government retaining the previous competitor), revolution (replacement of the people in government and modification of institutions eliminating the previous competitor) and civil war (destruction of the government and replacement with an entirely new one, eliminating the previous competitors).

5 – A set of leaders (speakers) to rally action. (We need 100 people. That’s all. I need only twelve who are very good.) Propertarianism and Testimonialism will be a more complete framework than has been produced before, even if we take into account all of Locke,Hume,Smith and Jefferson as a set.

And if I fail, then the work sits in books and records until someone decides to use it or create something better. But I will have my good service.

One leads a horse to water, but cannot make it drink.

  • Separate: There Is Isn’t Any ‘US’ Any Longer

There is no “us”, because we demonstrate want and need for different commons. A government provides no other function than the production of commons. A democracy constitutes a monopoly on the production of commons. Ergo, the only possible solution to a demand for different commons is separation. Revote, Separate, Prosper, Speciate. Democracy is a means of selecting priorities in the production of commons between those of common interests, wants, and needs. A market is a means of selecting preferences in the production of the private and common among those with different interests wants and needs. A market for physical, normative, and institutional commons requires separate governments, where differences between groups are ameliorated by trade policy. Democracy over a heterogenous population is just monopoly tyranny. We can once again afford to separate, and speciate. And democracy is merely a false religion that prohibits our individual and group fulfillment.

  • The Pagan, Christian, and Future Sacred

I am, at this stage of my life, extremely conscious of the Germanic and Scandinavian pagan side of my upbringing – possibly because of the influence of my paternal grandfather and his father’s educations. Possibly because I lived in a very germanic town as a child. Possibly because of the remnants of prewar education. Possibly because that category of knowledge has been actively (((suppressed))) by the left in the postwar period. I have more in common with, and experience with, Shakespeare’s work as a ‘bible’ than the semitic one. And far more exposure to folklore than Biblical stories. This is despite the fact that my mother is a die hard french catholic in the ancient tradition – and I completed the catholic teachings, schooling, and sacrements. My own reading formed more of my ‘religion’ than did all the teachings. I am fairly sure that when I was in church, I ignored the speeches of the priests and that my concept of god, the saints and the heroes is a pagan one. Not by choice but by circumstance. This is one of the reasons I understand that if we all went to church and heard it in latin, without understanding a word that was spoken, we would get the benefits of religion simply by the ritual and the sacredness of the circumstance. If we instead of listening to latin we did not understand (which I recall, since I am old enough to remember the latin mass) heard the pagan stories and lessons of history, and gave the oath of allegiance (lord’s prayer) to one another, the same result would manifest in the population. All the good of religion comes from mindfulness, and mindfulness from training the mind and emotions to intuit (habituate) using beneficial norms rather than animal impulses, and to feel good about it.

    Curt Doolittle updated his status.

    (MY POSITION ON RELIGION)

The Oath Of Transcendent Man A Pagan, A Christian, An Aryan, A Warrior, A Man Transcendent
    (repost from Nov 2017)

I am a pagan if 1) I accept the laws of nature as binding on all of existence; and 2) if I treat nature as sacred and to be contemplated, protected and improved; and 3) I treat the world as something to transform closer to an Eden in whatever ways I can before I die; and 4) if I deny the existence of a supreme being with dominion over the physical laws, and treat all gods, demigods, heroes, saints, figures of history, and ancestors as characters with whom I may speak to in private contemplation in the hope of gaining wisdom and synchronicity from having done so. And 5) if I participate with others of my society in repetition of oaths, repetition of myths, repetition of festivals, repetition of holidays, and the perpetuation of all of the above to my offspring. And 6) if I leave open that synchronicity appears to exist now and then, and that it may be possible that there is a scientific explanation for it, other than just humans subject to similar stimuli producing similar intuitions and therefore similar ends.

As far as I know this is all that is required of me to be a Pagan.

I am a christian if I have adopted the teaching of christianity: 1) the eradication of hatred from the human heart. 2) the extension of kinship love to non-kin. 3) the extension of exhaustive forgiveness before punishment, enserfment, enslavement, death, or war.

As far as I know, this is all that is required of me to be a Christian.

I am an Aryan if 1) I proudly display my excellences so that others seek to achieve or exceed them; 2) I seek competition to constantly test and improve myself so I do not weaken; 3) I swear to speak no insult and demand it; 4) I speak the truth and demand it; 5) I take nothing not paid for and demand it; 6) I grant sovereignty to my kin and demand it; 7) I insure my people regardless of condition, and demand it; and in doing so leave nothing but voluntary markets of cooperation between sovereign men; and to discipline, enserf, enslave, ostracize or kill those who do otherwise; 8) to not show fear or cowardice, abandon my brothers, or retreat, and 9) to die a good death in the service of my kin, my clan, my tribe and my people.

As far as I know, this is all that is required of me to be an Aryan.

I am a warrior in that 1) we will prepare for war so perfectly that none dare enter it against us. 2) Once we go to war, we do so with *joy*, with eagerness, and with passion, and without mercy, without constraint, and without remorse; And 3) before ending war, we shall defeat an enemy completely such that no other dares a condition of our enemy, and the memory of the slaughter lives a hundred generations.

As far as I know, this is all that is required of me to be a Warrior.

As far as I know, if I succeed as a Pagan, as a Christian, as an Aryan, as a Warrior, then I have transcended the animal man, and earned my place among the saints, heroes, demigods, gods, in the memories, histories, and legends of man.

And that is the objective of heroes. We leave the rest for ordinary men.
