It’s a pretty strange experience to observe (if you can) how your own mind changes as you recover from long term illness – even long term illnesses like cancer or infections that you can’t perceive as pain, or even identify as other than malaise.

If you’ve been following me for at least a year or so you probably can see where this work is all headed now.
It was much harder for me to figure out how to talk about these things in simple terms than it was to solve the initial problem. I understood, very early, that the missing ethical property of complex cooperation was calculability. I understood what was wrong with praxeology, and ethics. I understood how to connect biological and evolutionary necessity with calculability and calculation. I understood reproduction but not the importance of the family as an organizational structure.
But to tie it all together in language that was at least somewhat accessible was extremely difficult. Because unfortunately, I don’t really think in words. It’s somewhere between logic and programming. So I have to write, write, write, over and over again, until I get it right. And by right I mean “compact” and therefore accessible to others.
I wish I could sleep more often this well, because I’m so productive when I do. My productivity is almost entirely dependent on the volume of sleep I get. Today is a productive day.

Coffee shop. In a corner. Three young men. Handsome. Bright eyes. Educated. Expensive laptops. A bit disheveled. Busy with phones and planning.
And body armor hung over their chairs.

Ack. miserable today. no deep thinking possible. just floating on the waves of rumor, propaganda, news, academic blogging pretense, and random pseudo intellectual publications. sigh…
It’s warm outside. LOTS of people in Maydan today. I saw women walking in skirts with bare legs – they are proud and brave. 🙂 Streets are normal but calm – like a holiday. Traffic is muted. Voices are calm. Yesterday was ‘enough’.
I love these people.

Thank you Kirill Latish for meeting with me this morning, despite the chaos here in Kiev. Despite my possibly contagious state. Despite the difficulty you must have had in getting to our office. I was overwhelmed by the number of technical problems you solved. I was further overwhelmed by your management of the work load. Awed by your selection of priorities and mastery of the material. As always, your intelligence is only matched by your character. And I am lucky to have met you in this life, and luckier still to work with you as a partner in our crazy business adventure. And privileged to have you as a friend. Thank you so much for letting me ‘have the rest of the day off sick’. 🙂

I learned something simple today that should have been obvious: how to be happy with age. It’s not finding something safe, secure, and boring. That’s actually a bad dream to have. Instead, it’s constantly finding ways to add value to others’ lives.
