People only accept their standing in class, status, and power distance among kin. This is a fundamental law of human behavior. You can deny it as in islam and produce tribalism, or embrace it as in japan, korea, and china, as nationalism, or a variation – but it’s inviolable.

Intelligence is the term for Rate of Cognitive Adaptation, and that rate is determined by neurological scale, quality of integration, and response time. The measure of DEMONSTRATED intelligence is one’s actions. But those actions will accumulate in success in any field by advantage over every other individual in that field of lesser intelligence, mediated by conscientiousness, specialization, and dedicated experience.

AFAIK variation in country data, particularly in Denmark, has more to do with national habits of self-reporting than demonstrated differences in trust. The question isn’t what people report, but what behavior demonstrate.
