    We will have the top of the market, but then, as in anything, that’s probably not area of peak demand. Which is fine with me. I’d rather be at the top of the market with customers at the top of the market. 🙂

    I’m really in love with the design still, so it largely looks the same. But I spent some time this week hand-coding propertarianism.com – reducing the memory footprint by two thirds, and creating a new document type that will allow me to publish propertarianism online more easily.

    In truth the new document type was an experiment since Oversing’s later versions will contain a kind of document authoring that is I think, more in line with the direction of writing tools and online writing in particular, than the wiki model – and far easier to work with. I can’t do everything in wordpress that I want to but at least I think the idea is sound.

    Anyway, I really didn’t want to spend time on this but the server crash at Bluehost last weekend convinced me that the effort to reconstruct the website would be better put to hand coding it.

    STATE OF THE CONTENT

    Oversing takes priority at the moment, but I will incrementally both move work to the web site, and revise the definitions. I have a lot of work to do still, but most of it is just labor now.

    I had a bad day yesterday (budgets) but today when I use oversing I see it as something very amazing that we just need a little more time to demonstrate. It has been two years of hard work. But you can start to feel the Facebook experience coming together for the workplace. And I think that if FB does come to the workplace we will still hold the upmarket position. But whether we do or not in that market, we will crush the existing market and I am still thinking we have a 100M product on our hands.

    OVERSING UPDATE: ACTIVITY STREAM, CHAT, and MENTIONS

    Well, now Oversing’s Activity Stream and Chat are done. It’s a joy to work with. (although I still want the workspace to be at 65% of scale and the chat and activity windows to be We are also including Peer-to-peer Video Chat, but I want to postpone that until after beta.

    Interesting: we wrestled with chats and the context of the chats. So in FB the people are the context, and what people refer to is irrelevant. But in Oversing we want everything in context. So you can open a chat with a context as a participant. But we just can’t get it done for Beta. But afterward, you’ll be able to treat contexts as participants and therefore keep record of communications in context of the work you’re doing.

    I haven’t seen anyone else do that. Not that they haven’t, but I haven’t seen it.

    We have ‘mentions’ (@name) in activity streams and we will shortly have topic mentions (# topic ) and finally we will have context mentions ( @@ context or && context) in them. So then if you go to the page for the topic, you can see the mentions in the activity stream and pull up the conversation just as you pull up a conversation in chat with a person today. We have also put in a chat tab to access your chats on any person or topic. It’s cool.

    I just can’t get it all done by the beta release. (The purpose of a beta is to help us find bugs. It is not an excuse to release a product.)

    Bluehost, supposedly the number one WordPress hosting service, has put all its eggs in one basket (a SAN) without keeping spares, or ready access to spares, and the SAN for my server has died, and my sites have been down for almost 24 hours.

    They have a great console system, which is why I chose them – despite the lousy response times. But, I also now know why they have such lousy response times compared to other vendors. Time to move on I think. Time to move on.

    We need more research into how employees construct internal inflexible rents, and now accountants drive up efficiency and down flexibility. Becuase business is hosed as it currently sits.

    I have this fantasy that someday oversing could evolve into providing what does not exist. And that is to use blockchain technology INSIDE of companies to provide the tracability of money that does not exist because of how accountants ‘fudge’ numbers for tax and credit purposes.

    The only data that matters is operational data. EBITDA. Taxes, Interest, Amortization, Depreciation, are all distortions of operational data, and as we use them are artifacts of the age of sail.

    Eh… I have tried to solve enough problems for one lifetime.

    OK. Crazy busy day today. They have oversing rocking right now. I am floored. We have most of the Facebook functionality done. So we can do all the silly chat stuff. Still more to do but you can ‘feel’ it in the interface (Although he chat stream in oversing is on the left, not the right.) And instead of pop stuff, oversing’s topics are all work related. And it looks a little more like the original FB without the big profile image. Lots of grunt work to get to done… but it’s pretty clear we rocked it.

    I think it is a messaging platform like Asana, not an ERP like Oversing. But it changes the competitive landscape for us a great deal.
