    Gender and Class Distributions: Outliers do not help us with general rules, they only tell us not to erect barriers. Distributions tell us general rules. You cannot construct a civilization out of outliers. That is a contradiction in terms.

    MALE AND FEMALE DIVISION OF LABOR

    History: women make children and women. Men make men. Women think as they do in order to make children and women. Men think as they do to make men. Women craft human material. Men craft civilization. It’s genetic. We can get SOME women to craft civilization also, just as we can get some men to raise children. But in the main, as a general rule, women and men divide genetic labor. And nothing will change that – ever.

    AMAZING WOMEN IN BUSINESS

    In business, in negotiations, V would eat most women twice her age like Pringles in a man cave on new year’s day. Not because she’s competitive. Not because she’s flirtatious or feminine. Not because of any ego. But, just because she’d just work harder, longer, and smarter.

    Women have a particular advantage at certain layers of business: they obtain their status elsewhere and so can compete for results at a discount. The women at the top tend to be outliers and other than as outliers, not terribly impressive. But I still contend that women, in the main, hold the center better than men do.

    Women seem to need a protector – perhaps men do too, but I don’t see it. And if protected they can do amazing things. Men do not need to feel safe to act. Make women feel safe. (And they will start to adopt your framing unconsciously.

    It’s weird. Women can rationalize their mate’s biases, find the best in them even if it’s not there, and find ugly, stupid, annoying, children beautiful and charming. Good thing. Someone has to. They can rationalize anything if it makes ‘peace’.

    They can gather and allocate many micro tasks at once that men cannot even imagine a mind can do.

    Politics and theory are, however, masculine talents. And while female outliers exist they are only outliers, not general rules.

    It is important to make women happy out of compassion: they struggle with maintaining rationality in the face of even the most trivial of uncomfortable truths. But that is different from taking them seriously. Rarely should a man take a woman seriously – they live in a world of chaos.

    ;).

    FACE CONTOL

    Interesting half hour conversation with the guys who do the face control at the clubs here. And it is what you would expect: just about all the girls but only guys with money, and nobody with a hint of color.

    Reason? Only the girls matter. And the Girl’s only want to see money.

    Damn.

    Men are irrelevant. 🙂

    CULTURAL OBSERVATIONS : GENDER CONCEPTS

    Amazing conversations with Ukrainian women the past few days. Pretty consistent:

    (a) Men are, in the main, smarter than women – but when they say this, it means a compartmentalized view of intelligence – it’s technical and political. This opinion has taught me a little bit about american view of intelligence for women – it’s a very administrative and sales based view of the world world. Over here it’s a political and technical view.

    (b) Women are much better at details – “this is a woman’s job, I must do this”. Meaning, “men are not able to do this well, women must do it”.

    (c) Men smack each other. That is like women being emotional.They are things that happen.

    I have heard this version of compatibilism a lot over here. There is nothing ‘negative’ about it at all. No animosity. No conflict. In fact, celebration of differences.

    But I wonder – as a society becomes increasingly white collar and under greater rule of law, is gender competition then a natural evolution?

    Dear women over 40. If you keep your hair long and your weight down you still got it. Maybe not so easy. But you still got it.

    If you are lucky enough to be from a family that taught you grace rather than feminism, you never lost it, and will always have it.

    Youth is cheap and accidental. Grace is priceless and accumulated.

  • On Convincing Others

    [C]HALLENGING THOUGHT OF THE DAY
    (useful)

    0 – We are unequally desirable mates – this is necessary for evolutionary adaptation.
    1 – We evolved a reproductive division of labor – the genders.
    2 – We evolved an inter-temporal division of reproductive labor:
    4 – We demonstrate short, medium, and long term preferences;
    5 – We demonstrate short, medium, and long term moral biases;
    6 – We evolved, quite naturally, lower(<95), middle(<125) and upper(>125) classes;
    7 – We need virtue(imitative), rule (rational), and outcome (scientific) ethics;
    8 – We need sacred(religious), moral(normative), and calculative (legal) rules;
    9 – We rely upon intuitive(experiential), conscious(rational), and instrumental(calculative) tools to made decisions.
    10 – Our moral biases reflect our reproductive strategies.
    11 – Our normative biases reflect our reproductive strategies.
    12 – Our formal and informal institutions reflect our group-competitive strategies.
    13 – All universalist strategy is to extend group-competitive strategies to dominate other group competitive strategies.

    Short term strategy is in the interest of the lower classes (socialism – labor)
    Medium term strategy is in the interest of the middle classes (classical liberty – trade)
    Long term strategy is in the interests of the upper classes (aristocracy – order)

    Some people are only CAPABLE of sentimental talk and argument.
    Some people are only CAPABLE of rational talk and argument.
    Some people are CAPABLE of scientific talk and argument.

    So what does all of this tell us about persuading others? It tells us that we cannot (and should not) try. It tells us to create institutions that allow cooperation across moral codes and reproductive strategies. It tells us that the majority cannot understand these matters except experientially – once implemented.
