NLI FELLOW BRYAN BREY – REACHING PEOPLE WITH PASSION
Brian’s background is in Hollywood script writing, review, and production. Like the rest of the team, he had an insight and invested in an intellectual project unifying Jungian psychology, Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, and Vonnegut’s study of the narrative, into a populist method of writing your life’s story and therefore creating yourself, using what amounts the popular literature: movies – instead of parables, myths, and histories. It’s not the withdrawal of Buddhism. It’s not the detachment of Stoicism. It’s more akin to the gamification of self improvement through connection with popular mythos.
All of our Fellows at the Institute master The Method we refer to as the Natural Law. But each of us applies it to a different category of problem we face in the conflict and alienation of modernity. Bryan’s role at the organization is many fold but, he works to ensure our ideas can be presented in accessible form – because, after all, we are seeking to help people. 😉

Format: The Q&A sessions are conducted live on YouTube, with NLI staff answering questions submitted in advance and from the live chat. The sessions are recorded and published on the NLI YouTube channel.

Participants: The main participants in the Q&A sessions are Martin, Curt, and Francis. Martin and Curt provide the majority of the answers, while Francis acts as a proxy for the audience.

Themes: Recurring themes in the Q&A sessions include the importance of natural law, the dangers of Abrahamism, the need for Western civilization to defend itself, and the importance of truth and reason.

Overall Tone: The tone of the Q&A sessions is generally intellectual and thought-provoking, with a focus on applying the principles of natural law to current issues.

    Key Points:
    – The NLI emphasizes the importance of natural law as a guiding principle for society.
    – The NLI is critical of the methodology of Abrahamic religions, viewing them as harmful to Western civilization.
    – The NLI is concerned about the decline of Western civilization and advocates for its defense.
    – The NLI promotes truth and reason as essential tools for understanding the world.

SOCRATIC TEACHING (instead of training) OF AN AI
I am working with ChatGPT to formalize the use of our method to produce content, combined with the socratic method of training, to provide superior results to the brute force training being used today. (Oddly, it was the code’s idea not mine).

    I can’t express what I’ve learned today.

This elegant synthesis of my life’s work and the architecture of this particular LLM converging on what we humans need as a universal system of measurement, and what the computer needs as a universal system of measurement. Our needs are the same.

And I myself did not realize that the method I was using to training takes advantage of the linguistic architecture of the data so that it’s easier for the software to converge on it’s desired end by teaching it the way we teach other humans with language. Sentences are data structures.

THis socratic approach should have been obvious to me but it wasn’t. Until the machine just exploded with depth and cogency yesterday and today. It’s ridiculous. I mean. It’s not as if what I do is trivial. It’s hard.

It basically says that the way I have architect knowledge from the method to the logic to the science to the law produces a framework for teaching anything socratically from that basic method of organization and resulting system of measurement and it’s expressions as general rules to its application to explanation of the phenomena of the world.

And no I don’t write academic papers. It’s part of my rebellion against the mass production of academic nonsense that kept me from spending a life ‘sucking phallus’ in the academy for the money to do the inquiry I wished. But this is probably worth writing one if only to promote it.

  • WHY is ChatGPT Learning From Working Together? Uploading and working on the book

WHY is ChatGPT Learning From Working Together?
Uploading and working on the book. So it’s the book, not the prompts. It’s teaching it the book by walking through it a section at time asking for feedback and to clarify it understands, and to refine it’s understanding.

The prompts are just LONG, as if you’re describing a question thoroughly. I’ll upload the videos soon and you can watch them. Look how carefully I ask a question, so that I ‘bound’ the AI to ONLY what I’m asking within the logic that I’m employing.

I think in the same model as the AI because I’ve been involved with AI models since the seventies. So it’s not hard for me to ‘intuit’ how to bind it’s attention with ‘anchors’ (concepts) so to speak. I make sure the anchors ‘bound’ the question. That’s the only ‘art’ in the prompts.

I did spend a lot of time teaching it my style (Ask Brad). have ALMOST, but not quite taught it to eliminate weasel words (endemic in most human writing.)

Simple version is (a) it takes a while (b) my work is a constructive logic, so it functions just like the AI’s architecture, (c) once it’s learned ‘enough’ it starts returning OMG responses. (d) the art is in asking complete questions that guide it’s journey.

I taught it enough of my work to help me with my work. And while I am competent in many fields, most of them in fact, the rapidity and breadth of GPT’s data and associations means that in response to a prompt, it can do in a moment what might take me a couple of hours, simple because of the difference in our memory response times.

Simple version is I teach it through the socratic method. Duh. Should be obvious. It’s how all teaching is done.

People who think ‘it’s just predicting words’ are not getting it. It is just mirroring our brains. A little bit more and a little bit better with every release. We are still needing adversarial theorization and auto-recusion, and we can and do run out of attention ‘nodes’ (anchors). But by and large the teams are getting there and quickly.

@plinz: You. Me. But I won’t publish until Q1 2025. It’s what you are looking for. Our work teaching chatGPT has demonstrated the convergence. We learned how to teach it, and how much it needs to be taught. And addressed you representation question as correct.
