  • Help Them Be All They Can Be

—“If you are trying to a convince a woman of something, you will be better off talking to a wall. Both will not listen or take your advice but at least the wall won’t argue with you.” — Old Adage. Um. My advice is different. (a) You cannot compel women to do much of anything other than ‘fit in’, ‘signal’, and ‘advance her offspring’. (b) You can only say ‘no’ to what will negatively affect you, or that you cannot afford, or that you are unable to do. In other words, argue possibility with women not preference or good. Otherwise you are attacking her intuition not her reason. A woman’s intuition (impulse) is not only unavoidable but her identity. If you argue against it then you are in fact criticizing HER, not the idea. Ergo, avoid doing so. My philosophy with women is to help them be all they can be, just like we should our children. And to leave decisions to them that do not REQUIRE a ‘no’ from you (man) because it is inter-temporally dangerous, economically, or physically costly for you.

  • Kids need to participate in a hierarchy.

MATCHES ALL THE RESEARCH: Kids need to participate in a hierarchy. by Greg Hamilton Socialization with adults and different aged kids (even sitting). This is critical and one big reason the scouts was important. Kids need to lead and follow and to be able to move around in the hierarchy. In standard schooling they are around their own age group and thats very unnatural and its not good for them. It also sticks you in a “position” possibly for life.

Humans have very high loss aversion on the one hand, desire attention by cheap means, and jockey for status by means of gossip. As such negative news spreads far faster that opportunity news. Seizing opportunities costs, avoiding losses and buying attention with gossip is cheap.

  • My father used to hire delivery drivers. I would ride in the van, pull the order

My father used to hire delivery drivers. I would ride in the van, pull the order, take it the door, knock, and delivery with a smile. I started (really) in second grade, on holidays, and I pretty much understood how a business ran by the time I was eleven. At twelve I had the largest paper route in the city, and did baby sitting for ‘rambunctious boys’ that girls couldn’t manage. (boys are simple. so simple it’s painful.) At sixteen I had a job running games at the amusement park, and building the end-displays at the super market, and had a crew of four or five. This is before I got out of high school.

From my perspective, after eleven or maybe twelve, about two hours of school a day is all that is necessary or valuable, with reading being the only exception. you can’t read enough. And the only way to read well (as to write well) is to just do it until you don’t think about it any longer.

I know why we don’t teach logic/rhetoric, history, money/accounting, economics, and warfare.

I don’t know why we don’t teach the electrical grid, the water, the sewer grid, the data grid, the highways, rivers, rails, airports, and ports and how they work together to move people and stuff.

But they are a far better investment for most people than the sciences and maths. I mean, I think it’s important to understand the hierarchy of structures in the physical universe from the subatomic to the ecological to the sentient.

But I would rather people people understand my table of grammars so so that they know what grammars exist and why, rather than know how to use them. Most of what we need to know about physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology, can be taught absurdly young.

Everything else is (a) reading, (b) learning application and (c) socializing.

Why do I care: re-socializing the polity around WORK rather than IDEOLOGY turns out to be the most important product of education.

My wife Allora and I were together almost twenty years, during which we had two fights. And she said that if she’d understood what I was saying one of them wouldn’t have happened. And I am sure the other was my fault for the same reason. I hate fights.

    SOME PEOPLE WANT TRANSCENDENCE

(It’s just self inducing endorphins – and another form of drug use as escapism. That doesn’t mean the religious “Spiritual” is not a psychological need to relieve the stress of ongoing computation with fragmentary knowledge. )

Yeah, but what if that experience is in fact what you want to consume? And what if consuming that experience both does no harm (directly or indirectly), creates no risk (directly or indirectly) and does you good?

Or conversely, what if that is ‘the best that many can hope for’, because the rational requires more agency than they possess?

So I think these people fall into camps:

1 – Pedagogical utility of intuitionistic expressions. (good)

2 – Political and Social Necessity: Mindfulness (good)

    3 – Cognitive Therapy. (good)

    4 – Action Avoidance (bad)

    5 – Escapism (bad)

Some of us are judges, and most of us need mindfulness, but some of us need to be therapists and some of us need therapy.

I don’t necessarily like the ‘Transcendent’ because as far as I know that’s just searching for a manual means of producing endorphins that compensate for weaknesses of social, sexual, economic, and political market value. Just as alcohol and drugs are artificial means of self medication.

And just as you see all forms of drug users excusing their dependencies, you see the ‘transcendent’ justifying their dependencies.

Hence why I advocate stoicism because it is self improvement not self medication.
