THE ACC: DECISION MAKING
The ACC, anterior(front) cingulate(encircle) cortex(grey matter), sits above the corpus callosum that connects the two hemispheres, and connects regions together. It integrates information *across time scales* – the value and uncertainty of predicted outcomes.
The sexes differ in what impulsivity is regulated. Male predator force dominance risk taking, and female prey emotional, freeze, flight, risk avoiding. And the brain regions that inhibit male and female impulsivity are different.
In fact, perhaps most interesting is the greater dependence in the male on cognition(weaker slower suppression) and the greater dependence in the female in reaction (stronger faster suppression).
Of course the result is male faster reaction times because of less inhibition, and female slower reaction times because of more.
Both sexes seek the same levels of stimulation but their response times do differ.

It’s “adaptive speed”. The broadest associations, in the largest brain volume, with the least information, in the shortest time, with the least repetition.

Working Memory augments it.
It’s basically an economy: associating neurons get fed. Fed neurons connect, roadways are frictions. obstacles on roadways increase friction.
The more grey matter, the more hierarchically organized, the more compute, the more white matter the more transportation. Absence of Friction is the best way to think about the problem of producing intelligence (less genetic load), just as trust reduces friction in our real world economy.
