  • The Future of Religion

    JOSLIN AND DOOLITTLE ON THE FUTURE OF RELIGION Curt: I think that the notion of religion in the archaic sense, is probably done forever except for the ‘stupid people’. And just as the current state religion is democratic pseudoscientific, secular, humanism, any replacement religion will require a narrative and inspirational (transcendent or accommodating) that is even more modern. So my argument would be more to focus on festivals and certification rituals, and education, and simply revert to our traditional myths as the basis for our narratives.

    Bill Joslin: I see. Through social rituals and narratives mythos is restored without the need for it to be a conceptual frame for reality. We profit from social function but isolate away the potential for deception-fraud… loose coupling (programming reference) of logos and mythos. That is brilliant. Curt: Bingo.

  • Canary: The Fragile Hypothalamus

    The brain is actually a pretty simple machine when it comes to aberrant sets of behaviors. Most of the time (in my opinion) male in utero development has been incomplete or overstimulated in one way or another, and we are consequently trapped – looking for intense stimuli in order to compensate for an inability to synthesize stimuli. The most sensitive part of our system seems to be the hypothalamus, and in my opinion, the responses to what is called ‘social defeat’ seem to be extremely sensitive and hyper-reactive. And so we see social anxiety as one of the queues to insufficient hypothalamic activity on the one hand, or as is common in autistics ‘intense world’ experiences, wherein the activity is simply too ‘intense’ and giving us false positives. (This is how I tend to explain the autistic spectrum reactions to people.)

    So again, it is easy to miscategorize general, insufficient, hypothalamic neurogenesis during development, as social anxiety disorder. When instead, by treatment of social anxiety disorder we provide sufficient connectivity and neurogenisis to the region that the suite of related symptoms – at least with years of training – can be compensated for.

    “Define aristocracy. As far as i know it means rule by meritocracy. So one is a member of the aristocracy as long as one joins the franchise and demonstrates his merit. Now, that is different from saying ‘nobility‘. Aristocracy is not synonymous with nobility. Although some abuse the terms and confuse ‘aristocrat’ with ‘nobility’ this is merely an error. Although In some of the literature the nobility(priesthood) and the aristocracy(martial) are two different classes. That said, there are two forms of nobility: awarded and earned. One can join the nobility by creating a persistent family with persistent managerial position. This is a natural aristocracy of natural nobility. One can also be ennobled formally, in order to increase your chances of persisting your family into natural nobility.

    Now, my family history is quite old, and from the literate, protestant preacher, commercial managerial, military officer, and lesser political classes. So I consider myself in the ‘natural’ middle class (organizers) rather than mere middle ‘consumer’ class. But in the ‘history books’ my family is referred to as ‘lesser aristocracy’. Which I translate to ‘managerial class’ that performs military service. Now, there is also the “Romantic” and aesthetic fantasy either from the selfish-dominance or public-heroic that aristocracy refers to a spiritual belief, rather than empirically demonstrated reality. And I am fine with this wet dream as long as it does not interfere with reality. We need to fabricate these fantasies to inspire the soldiery to risk and achievement. But it is just anotehr form of romanticism. And my function is to teach how to rule, not write songs, poetry, and propaganda.” – Curt Doolittle.

    God and prayer as a unit of measure. Just as we can use each other’s cooperation as a test, we can use prayer to an all knowing god to force ourselves to be honest with ourselves. If  god is similar enough across a population, we can use it as a unit of measure: a method of commensurability.

    HOLD THE NOBEL PRIZE COMMITTEE LIABLE FOR THEIR RATING SERVICE? Do you suppose we could make the Nobel Prize committee liable for the certification of pseudoscience? I think we could. Why not? I mean, for all intents and purposes, how is the Nobel Committee any different from the Mortgage Rating Services? Privatizing commons while socializing losses into the commons?
