Going through photos of the architectural properties of my hometown. Victorian and pre-depression. Trying to think of any post-depression architecture that beautifies the natural world. it’s not that there isn’t some – but that there isn’t much. One of the criteria for an architectural monument is that it must endure monumentally. Meaning retain their beauty without the maintaining hand of man. And by that requirement almost the entire twentieth century consists not of aristocratic architectural monuments(art), but bourgeois commercial fashion(design). The equivalent of glass tents.

Journalists tend to have a more “elitist” view of democracy, according to the study’s authors Tim Vos and David Wolfgang of U.M. This means that once a political candidate is elected into office, he will have control over decision making, without extensive input from the public. The job of journalists is simply to inform the public about what is going on in government to best prepare the public for the next election cycle.

“This version of democracy is what some theorists call ‘elitist democracy’— elites do the business of governing and journalism performs a checking function on behalf of a disinterested public,” the authors wrote in the 18-page report, which was originally published in October.

This differs from the “populist” view more widely held by Americans which is that the public should have input on political candidates’ decisions throughout their term. Under this philosophy of democracy, journalists would cover the opinions of different social groups.

“This disconnect has shown itself many times in recent months, as a large portion of the American public has expected political news to be covered in one way while reporters are covering political news in a different way,” Vos said.

As Butch mentioned above, (I just saw this post tonight, on March 1st) I’m increasingly confident that what accounts for the west consistently competing faster than ‘the rest’ is sovereignty, and its requirement for deflationary truth, and everything else results from it. The question is, why does it appear that westerners to have had this rather aristotelian bias “realism” or “military epistemology” even into prehistory? The only explanation that fits consists of a small number of related traits: (a) the lack of clannishness that seems to be a predisposition of near-arctic peoples everywhere in the upper hemisphere, (b) the long term use of metallurgy outside of the authoritarian mysticism necessary to organize irrigation in the river valleys, and (c) the battle tactics of raiders who family-financed bronze, horse, and wheel: beginning with voluntary membership in the ‘venture’, selection of leaders (generals), contractual adherence to promised battle plans even at risk of death, contractual distribution of proceeds from battle, and the merciless demands of military epistemology – a discipline we still practice in basic training today: testimony.

Our constitution was an imperfect attempt at natural law. Our next must correct its failings. NO MORE DISCRETIONARY RULE.

—“The Underlying assumption seems to be that judgement can be codified better than it can be utilised. Not sure this is the case.”—

Like science, Via-Negativa can be Codified. Via-Positiva cannot be. So Anything not bad may yet be good.

    Natural Law is Negative.
