  • Reproductive Strategies and Markets

by John Dow A polity can only generate the sovereign power necessary to establish and defend itself via competitiveness in the violence market. Production (Brotherly) and Reproduction (Motherly) Strategies obviously require cultivation to successfully compete fundamentally in intergroup Violence (Fatherly). Without production you lack weapons technology and food and shelter for your soldiers, without reproduction you lack soldiers. However, through the institutions of property and marriage, individuals compete individually within the polity with one another for individual success. In the institution of military, individuals must cooperate for the good of the group, they sacrifice their individual potential cost to accrue benefits to group fitness. Fundamentally, participation in intergroup violence brings the individual’s interests in allignment with the group’s interests.

Individuals who merely compete in the markets for production and reproduction lack this grounding, they compete with the other members of their polity on behalf of themselves, not each other, hence they require regulation through the institutions of property and marriage to limit negative externalities from their behaviour. If given power, these people will rationally vote in their self-interest to transfer wealth to themselves, not the collective interest to transfer wealth to their group.

Symbols provide an improvement upon memory. Writing symbols evolved to create lists of inventory. A journal is an improvement upon lists. An accounting system is an improvement over a journal. We need symbols, lists, journals, accounting systems, hierarchical databases, relational databases, and so on… But if we work hard enough we come round full circle as the only difference in each of these conditions is the cost of retaining and locating memories. Where, in that series, we evolved to store the minimum amount of information, searchable at the minimum cost, to do precisely the same thing – but at much smaller scale than the machines that we ask to perform the same task at ever increasing scales.

    SERIES: MODELS OF DECIDABILITY

    (very important)(advanced)

Note: Michael Andrade teased me the other day for posting so many series, often without resolution. Why?

Each series is an attempt at creating a proof. An attempt to create a set, series, sequence, spectrum, that increases the precision of every definition by its membership in that spectrum. I try to include as many terms as I can, and when something doesn’t fit, I add more dimensions. I record each ‘failed proof’, and some of them I’ve tried dozens of times – each time trying to take it to further clarity and precision. Eventually I end up with all terms defined on different spectra, and each spectra represents a causal axis – a universal law of man. It is from the identification of these axis that I test each other axis, and together develop an internally consistent and externally correspondent logical description of the laws that govern men’s impulses, thoughts, and actions.

And while definitions are important for clear argument, and definitions in series (linear or otherwise) are the best we can achieve, that is not my end objective.

Just as reality consists of dimensions and eventually pure relations, mathematics consists of dimensions and eventually pure relations, our methods of argument consist of dimensions and eventually result in pure relations. Just as mathematics consists of very simple operations, programming consists of very simple operations, chemistry consists of a very simple set of operations, the ‘theory of everything’ must eventually consist of very simple (deterministic) operations, also… in practice, the law of perfect reciprocity must also consist of a simple set of operations (we know that already from experience), and most importantly *argument* must consist of a very simple set of operations (it does), and a limited number of *dimensions* (it does). Moreover, just as languages vary from the primitive and high context (Chinese), to the advanced and low context (English/German), Arguments vary from universal context (human experiences), to high context (normative), to low context(natural law), to minimum-context’ (science, or ‘truthful’). And so just as we have sought the ‘law of chemistry’, and the law of nature (cooperation), we can seek the ‘law of sentience’. The law or argument. The law of communication. And with that law we can create arguments ever closer, and ideas ever closer, to correspondence with reality. And it is from correspondence with reality that we gain knowledge of reality – and from that knowledge, dominion over reality.

THE LAYER CAKE OF SOCIAL ORDER

    RELIGION

Religion evolved to provide understanding of the word, virtues to imitate, and general prohibitions, across clans, tribes, and conquered nations, so that people could cooperate more easily and retaliate (feud) less frequently.

    Weapon: ostracization (death sentence)

    Records: memory of locals.

    LAW

Law evolved to standardize punishments across clans, tribes, and conquered nations, to keep the peace, preserve productivity, preserve taxation, and legitimize (provide value by) rule.

    Weapon: violence, deprivation

Records: written ledgers of crimes and punishments.

    CREDIT

Credit rule evolved to increase productivity by the promise of consumption in the present, such that the primary form of social punishment was loss of consumption, status, and signaling.

Weapon: deprivation of consumption, status, and signaling.

Records: written and electronic records of creditworthiness.

(Considering starting a politics and philosophy forum that selects articles every day and provides an analysis of incentives and changes in capital. In other words, a balance sheet for any argument. I think this might be very educational and could become popular. There are a very small number of places where you can find grownup arguments. They are in the geostrategic and geo-economic papers and blogs. Almost everything else published every day is moral justificationism (Excuse making) and nothing more. )

    ——

(unaccepted post in politics philosophy forum)(the host has been effort-spamming forums with uncriticized anti-trump propaganda pieces, which are just more articulate green frogs memes.)

    @James Ragsdale

if [this] is a forum for discussion, then it’s a value. Which would require posting both sides of the debate. If this is a form for you to express your frustrations then it is no longer anything to do with theory policy and philosophy, but simply just emotional.

Just create an “I hate trump” forum and put it there. But at present you’re not acting any differently from the alt-right-green-frog folks except your posting pseudo-rational propaganda instead of openly irrational green-frog cartoons.

You have energy and a particular gift. And if you employ it honestly then you can make a contribution to the world.

I’m honest about my work and my bias. (and yes, the fact that The Clinton Foundation defrauded me of $2M they said they would pay me for developing the greenhouse-gas measurement software, after we rescued their efforts in India at Microsoft’s request; and the fact that I have direct experience with these people – including Murdoch’s wife – might color my judgement a bit. These are ‘bad’ immoral, people for whom lying is simply a justifiable means of achieving their ends.)

Anger destroys honesty. Half truths are lies. Half arguments are just half truths.

Hence why I argue in the manner that I do: the only ‘good’ is exchange. The only ‘moral’ is non-imposition of costs.
