    MOVING THE GOAL POSTS

—“The left is always moving the goalposts. If you point out that the welfare state (compassion + bureaucracy + taxes + regulation) generates sloth, parasitism, irresponsibility, etc, you might get the answer that “you, too, would be slothful, etc. if you had to face what the average poor person faces everyday”. In other words, the old model of poor people as poor people with middle-class values/sensibilities is gone. Apparently, capitalism is a game of economic musical chairs in which millions of (once) poor folks make it into the lower or middle-class but somehow a vast underclass gets left without jobs, thereby triggering the underclass traits we all know and love.”–

The ui-design bias of mobiles is causing a delay in the design bias of information density on the desktop made possible by increased screen resolution (see Retina or 5k).

Now it’s FASHIONABLE to produce UI designs for mobile using low information density. And low information density makes for ease of use. But that does not mean that low information density is an intrinsic good – it isn’t. Its a contextual good. Information density places fewer demands on memory, and allows for pattern recognition to work effortlessly. Progressive complexity is the holy grail. That is: incrementally exposing complexity to users as they learn.

In Oversing you can just peek through a little window, or have an enormously rich view of your world. But that enormously rich view would overwhelm you day one. Just as the simplest view would frustrate you at day five-hundred.

    (nonsense)(life in Ukraine)

The clothing shops are filled. Any shop that sells ‘winter’ rather than ‘late autumn’ coats (anything but parkas), is loaded with people trying to combat the early winter.

In Ukraine, we wear serious winter coats. As in the upper-peninsula of Michigan kind of serious winter coats. I have made it through two winters without one. Instead, for the past couple of years I wore layers. I have this wonderful wool coat by Pierre Cardin, and one very similar by Roy Robson, and and brown and black insulated leather jackets. But last winter, in when it got seriously cold here, I had to bundle up inside my extra-large RLX ski- hoodie (it’s luxurious really), and a northwest wind barrier over it, with more layers underneath. And I still froze just going out for milk.

So this year I just bought an extra-large winter parka by Oodji (French)that fits over my black leather jacket, which fits over a shirt and heavy sweater. And that combination is awesome. It’s like an oven. Although, around here you do need either winter pants or long-johns. And I don’t have either that, or a good pair of winter boots (which I also did without last year).

Last year, I promised myself I would not spend another deep winter in Kiev. But no matter where I spend the winter, at least i’ll be warm. 😉

And it’s damned cold here today.

Val told me that I have improved in the past six months, but I want to turn that around and suggest that if you randomly selected twenty posts from each member of this group a year ago and compared them to the last twenty they have made – particularly in the past three weeks – you would notice dramatic improvements in the sentence structure, informational density, length, analytic content, empirical references, and sheer confidence of each writer. What were expressions of criticism or advocacy have evolved into arguments.

    It’s moving. Spiritually.

    100 is all we need.

    THOUGHTS ON THE FED

Uncomfortable truth: It is not clear that we will or are morally bound to end the fed, only that we are morally bound to eliminate a monopoly currency for other than the payment of taxes (fees, or commissions – however we choose to structure it.)

The reason is, that it is not clear that savers and investors are due appreciation of the currency. It is very hard to argue that they are due appreciation (or loss) of the currency. In fact, it appears the opposite is true: that they have not earned the appreciation of the currency-of-the-commons. It is clear that if they can invest in any alternate currency, then purchase the payment-for-commons-currency as needed, that this involves no unearned gain, or forced loss – as such it is not immoral.

WHERE HOPPE MISSED THE OPPORTUNITY TO ABANDON APRIORISM

I just figured out where Hans missed the irrefutable argument against apriorism, and the necessity of operationalism. He looked it in the face so to speak, and didn’t understand it.

He must not have understood why Bridgman was demanding Operationalism, or why Brouwer was demanding Intuitionism. (same thing – different names).

I could make a career out of this single issue…. fascinating.
