Every culture has in its past engaged in parasitism, and the evolution of civilization requires a constant process of INTERNALLY suppressing parasitism. Sometimes after realizing one’s failures (the British). Yet some cultures do not specialize in productivity – they specialize in parasitism. This parasitism evolves into the group’s evolutionary strategy.

One can either suppress parasitism or increase parasitism.
Whether a culture is objectively moral or not is dependent only upon this one test.

Remembering the first significant software I wrote that monitored employee activity. The first thing I noticed was that some people lost energy around ten, then ‘crashed’ earlier in the day than others: about 2:00pm rather than 4:30pm. It was interesting. It took me a couple of days.
It was the smokers.

Actually women and men’s product evolution is a little different. Men tend to copy tools and signals that work, just like women do. But their tools and signals are narrower than women’s just as men’s consumption is narrower than women’s. They also tend to be more expensive. And (honestly) women are the most expensive signal we work to ‘buy’.
So men usually perform discretion at the top and then are copied, while women perform discretion nearly everywhere and try to preserve individualism. (Roughly). This means that men wear uniforms and women customize. It means that men buy cars and women clothes and shoes and purses. It means men build companies and women build offspring. And yes we overlap a bit.
But this produces different kinds of ‘waste’. Women’s clothing and accessories are more expensive, and men’s tools are more expensive than women’s.

For the past four years I have carried around this white USB port in my bag. And about every month or so I think I don’t use it so I shouldn’t carry it. And then today I need it to work, and of course I can’t find it.

The best thing that happened to them was the spread of belief that they don’t exist.
