The general argument that I rely upon is that consciousness exists for the purpose of social interaction by observing, empathizing, sympathizing, negotiating, and cooperating, avoiding, or conflicting. Otherwise it is too expensive (brains are really expensive). In other words, the returns on cooperation are high enough for all that individual humans can afford expensive brains. Consciousness exists like language exists – to negotiate cooperation.

Most Gen X are still mental teenagers.

Those who came up after that are still watching and thinking about cartoons, still wearing Spongebob pajamas in the same bedroom of their parent’s house where they “grew up”.

I fully understand that employment/economic options are limited in a way not seen since the Depression.

But to regress back to permanent adolescence -often financially supplemented by your aging parents- instead of embracing whichever caste you are in (warrior, artist, priest, tradesman, etc) is pathetic.

To fail to pursue excellence for excellence’s sake (regardless of financial incentives) is what dooms a contemporary Western Man to a life of pampered irrelevance.Dec 21, 2018, 9:41 AMTODAY’S VENTURE INTO CLOWN WORLD

Then to DEC VAX. Then RADIO SHACK. Then well, Commodore 64, Tandy Color Computer 1 and 2, then IBM pc…. then ….

My partner Jim programmed on those metal spinning drum things back in the day at the jet propulsion laboratory. fk.

I did my homework then I wrote games. Or rather, I wrote games until i couldn’t delay doing my homework any longer.

…. that and this whatever it is … that we call neuroticism, or worry, or simply ‘restlessness’ as historians call it. I prefer ‘restlessness’ to the diagnostic ‘neuroticism’. We clearly have it. And we clearly have the heroic thing in spades. And we have the face-doesn’t-matter thing. So together that sort of gets to the heart o fit.

Germans were not scary until trained by romans to fight in formation. Vikings were scary because they had fast ships, horses, a range of weapons, and fought in formation – the perfection of light infantry, cavalry, and sail. Europeans were scary because they made amazing, fast ships, loaded them with guns, horses, and men with guns. Germans were amazing because they used armor as if it was light cavalry. americans are currently amazing, because they use air force as cavalry.

ALL ELSE IS TRAINING, REPAIR, SUPPRESSION

But here is the thing: Western man had no need of mindfulness because of his ‘order’. That stoicism[1] can provide mindfulness to those who lack that order is a solution to a problem. However, there is no substitute for a initiation in group of warriors (pack), and ritual thanks to a king, one another, ancestors, and nature.

    Everything else is education(training), therapy(repair), medication(suppression)

[1] Stoicism = CBT = Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
