—“At what point to diseconomies of organizational scale kick in or is this a flawed frame?”—Lee Tucker

    Curt Doolittle

That is the entire question as far as I am concerned.

If we take an empirical look, the scale increases with available information systems, and the homogeneity of the population.

But in simple terms, a city = a market, and a market must serve a demographic and a demographic must exploit a niche in the regional or world market.

So as far as I can tell there is some ratio between population, density, iq, and homogeneity, institutiona means of distributing/collecting information necessary for decidablity, and relative productivity (purchasing power) that should tell us the optimum size.

the value of scale kicked in with gunpowder and the high cost of total war. (napoleon). HOwever, with nuclear weapons, that value disappears, so as far as I can tell, 5-10M, and that is up from what looks like 2-3M in the last century, simply because of the complexity of goods and services produced, and longer lifetimes (in other words more people does not translate to more people productiely employe) . So population can increase without affecting the systems of production.

Conversely, lets look at competition: a bigger city with more assets can endure shocks over longer periods of economic reorganization, by spending down those assets.

—“[Someone says] Hoppe confuses a claim right (demand) with a liberty right (granted right) do you agree with this conclusion?—A Friend

    1) He confuses a claim(want), with granted/existing(by third party insurer), with sovereign(existential) unnecessary.

    2) he confuses non contradiction in a dispute in front of a judge (third party insurer), where I cannot walk away from judgemnt in dispute, but I can walk away prior to dispute, with negotiation with a hostile party who may kill you if you walk away from the negotiation.

In other words, he is making a moral, or a leagal argument within the context of existing cooperation, rather than making a scientific argument that is necessary to construct a polity in the first place.

Hoppe’s philosophy is shit. His arguments as to the application of property (voluntary transactions) as a means of commensurability in all of social science is genius.

He gets his training from fucking habermas ( a private property marxist ) and then from Rothbard (a common property marxist ) and we wonder why he makes nonsense marxist arguments in favor of private property.

The source of liberty is the common law of torts. And the common law of torts evolved between sovereign men as a means of preventing retaliation cycles.

    Violence. It’s all from violence.

WHY GO AFTER THE CHURCH SO HARD TODAY?

—“Curt: Did someone steal your sacramental wine? Never saw you go after the church so hard.”—Arnold Brunson

I am just trying to gin up some arguments to see what kind of reactions people have.

Our church failed to compete with the new church that replaced it. The new church is evil as hell. But can the old church compete? How can we produce a church of europe that CAN compete with Cultural Marxism?

I tried to drive the discussion all day from various angles. (without giving away what I was driving at.) Finally someone got it.

Why? At someone’s suggestion, I spent last night working on how murderous islam had been until 1920. We only defeated them a century ago and they’re back already.

But what’s really changed? Marxism is just islam/judaism restated. democratic secular socialist humanism is just marxism restated. Why do we fail? Why did our church fail us for so many centuries. Why did we recover so quickly under empiricism, literacy, and the balance of powers? Why did we develop so quickly under literacy, reason, and the division of powers in the ancient world?

I know the answer you know and it doesn’t look good for christianity. It just looks good for jesus and the saints.

Islam is an exceptional religion for idiots, and they are going to win unless we kill them off for good, as well as marxism, judaism, and democratic secular socialist humanism.

THE SOURCE IS LAW. ITS JUST NOT INSPIRATIONAL

    —“Do you enjoy Taleb?”—Zachary Davidson

Enjoy??? No. Empathize with. Sure. Understand that he is trying to solve the same problem, Yes.

(He’s one of the four horsemen of the reformation: peterson, haidt, doolittle, taleb.)

Taleb is an interesting mix of quantitative and literary, and he clearly understands the problems of idealism and realism, and he is readable because of his idealism, but he doesn’t seem to grok, or can’t imagine, the relationship between the record of the common law of torts and the problem he is trying to solve.
