http://www.overcomingbias.com/2015/04/firms-are-56-dark-matter.htmlONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT NEW DISCUSSIONS IN ECONOMICS.

I gave a talk to Ascentium staff about this trend and how it would effect marketing and advertising in 2009. But it was too far over the horizon for the audience.

What does this mean for policy. What does it mean for accounting and reporting. What does it mean for brands?

I was more interested in what it meant for executives and finance and reporting than brands.

And I think brand people work in much shorter time horizons. So there isn’t advantage to being an early mover as much as moving once the old habits stop working.

But for the c-level, we work on long horizons. And we must be aware that the government trails us.

So developing internal management, information and accounting systems that adhere to policy is a death trap.

Instead we must separate external financial accounting from management accounting. And we should account for and measure our “dark matter”.

That returns us to measuring brand value.

As these numbers indicate, that is your MOST IMPORTANT ASSET.

Culture is you next most important asset.

Capital will remain free through 2025 at the earliest and under deflationary pressure.

So IP, culture that attracts talent, and brand loyalty are your only material assets.

Let the government tax you as if we still lived in the age of telegraph and sail.

But measure culture, build talent, and measure customer loyalty. And brand value.

Business norms like cultural norms and policy adapt more slowly than circumstances change.

Overcoming Bias : Firms Now 5/6 Dark Matter!

  • IN FAIRNESS TO BOTH SEXES – WE MISREPRESENT EACH OTHER’S PERSPECTIVES> So true.

IN FAIRNESS TO BOTH SEXES – WE MISREPRESENT EACH OTHER’S PERSPECTIVES>

So true. Women want, and often need, to vent their emotions. And to organize them, so that they can self-correct them. It’s much harder to be a woman than a man. Our minds are much less cluttered. I think of our function in a relationship as helping women bail out the boat, so that it’s floating on it’s own enough that they can pilot it in the waves. Once we’ve bailed out the boat, you can often suggest ideas. but it is important that women feel the solution is their own, and that they do not have to fight their emotions to adopt it. A woman cannot suppress the chaos in her mind and emotions, any more than we can suppress our anxiety about various threats. In our case we need care-taking so that we can restore our energy and therefore will to continue fighting. Women need to have their emotions bailed out so that they can think straight. It’s the same problem for both sides. It’s just that our stress is low level and pre-cognitive, and theirs is high level and dominates their ability to think. So we both need ‘restoration’. The problem in both cases is to provide one another with the energy with which to deal with stresses. It is not in itself to solve the problem. We can usually solve our problems if we have the emotional wherewithal to solve them. It is this wherewithal that we give to each other. Albeit in different ways.

  • The Decline in the USA’s Military Power Is Not A Problem for Americans – Only For Bureaucrats

THE DECLINE IN USA’S MILITARY POWER IS NOT A PROBLEM FOR AMERICANS – ONLY FOR BUREAUCRATS
    (from elsewhere)
    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2015/03/31/396604082/dozens-of-countries-join-china-backed-bank-opposed-by-washington

[T]he USA pays for its military through the sale of petro-dollars and debt that it inflates away. It was this technique started under Nixon that allowed the USA to economically bankrupt the soviets via military competition. (Something easy enough to repeat with the Putinista Russians.)

The sale of oil in euros was the first blow that limited future american military expansion. This allowed europeans to cease indirect payment for defense to the USA. The rise of China and demand for american debt sustained american military expansion. The attempt of Iran to create a bourse and take over this tax on world oil production by demanding middle eastern oil in the currency of their choice, is an effort to transfer this power. With nuclear weapons it becomes a possibility for them.

China has set out to replace america as the global power in the current century. But to do so requires weakening the USA’s state department, and to weaken american financial interests. It is more important to weaken the relationship between capital and democracy. So for china, the use of such a bank, will extend its power, and more importantly, eliminate the correlation between demand for credit, demand for commerce, and the corresponding demand for democracy and human rights. In other words, china wants to spread authoritarian capitalism, by improving the standing of authoritarian capitalism.

So in the long term, americans will have to retrench, because democracy is a failed experiment, social democracy a failed experiment, and authoritarianism with limited capitalism (aristocratic capitalism), superior to proletarian capitalism (social democracy).

Americans would very much prefer to withdraw from world affairs. Especially that we are now marginally oil independent. Unfortunately, the left has succeeded in overwhelming americans through immigration, and thereby achieving through population-conquest what could not be achieved through ideas.

But to state that this change in power is a ‘problem for americans’ is simply not true. It’s a problem for bureaucrats. But americans will merely experience a decline in standard of living to european levels of consumption. They will dramatically decrease their public spending on the military. Europe will dramatically increase its military spending on the military. And the world will equilibrate to less variation in purchasing power between nations. And the nations with the greatest purchasing power will be those that possess the best legal systems, with the greatest experimentation, and the least rents. In that race, americans may still win.

—“According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, women are more likely to abuse children than men. In Australia, “mothers carried out almost 68 per cent of cases of emotional and psychological abuse committed by parents, about 53 per cent of physical abuse and more than 94 per cent of neglect cases.” If you ever find yourself asking why there are so many violent people out there, you might want to start by looking at all those women beating up little children.”—

I haven’t seen the data but it’s consistent with everything else I have come across.

    Why? Men just leave.

http://www.kyivpost.com/opinion/op-ed/alexei-bayer-the-roots-of-russias-disdain-for-ukraine-384783.htmlRussian Mythology is unique in that it places its origins in a foreign land – it’s a justification.

Ukrainian’s are Rus. Russians are not Rus. They are Muscovites and Mongols. It’s not complicated. They had to steal a history. Their own isn’t very impressive. And unlike Germans and Americans, they are not taught the bad side of their own history: that they are the most murderous people in history.

Ukraine is the european Urheimat. It is the origin of our people.

Ukrainian’s are Europeans, not mongols, and not Muscovites.
