(Oversing Status : It is getting harder to find bugs and work needed to complete features for the Alpha. I do have one problem, that I have to choose between finishing billing and invoicing (boring and well understood) and finishing the cultural features (that differentiate the product), first. And I’m going to take a bit of a risk and go with what differentiates the product first at the expense of not allowing the user to immediately bill and invoice, because I am afraid the features won’t make it to Beta unless I keep pushing for them now. And I am afraid of alpha-users’s initial reaction – not understanding the scope of the product – without them. So, alpha will not have the full billing/invoicing or triangulation/estimating features complete. I have to wait for beta. As of today there are about 350 issues open. And while 125 of them are nit-bugs, the rest of them are all over the place.)

Now that I have Finished Class Theory, Sociology, and Inter-Group Competition, I have to create a graphic, or some form of visually representing the different moral and immoral group evolutionary strategies that different cultures operate by…. Finished the time and expense input designs last month. Finished the activity stream designs this morning. Finished forecasting feature today with a rapid and lucky insight.

The guys are getting closer with scheduling (resourcing). Progress is slow but heartwarming. We are too slow – I know because some of our advantage is narrowing in the SMB space. And this year’s delays have really hurt. But the product is still amazing. Quite a bit of work and the rate of front end dev is a constant blocker. I need more people working JavaScript.

That’s it. Thats enough work on Oversing for one day. So, enough with all you losers. I’m off to Fashion Club. Gonna blow my voice out. Whoot! The hardest rock possible while still carrying a melody. 🙂

hmmmm… I’m in the mood for …. Sweet Dreams, by Marylin Manson.

(I dunno. This new video doesn’t need much editing really. I think I could provide points during, and a summary at the end, but really it’s pretty good as it stands. I could simply add titles to it and be done.)

    BACK ON THE BOOK

I have been working on Oversing and personal matters pretty hard for two months, and only written a lot for the past few days. And apparently, according to conversation tonight, I’m in trouble with my peers for not working on the book more than I have been.

I see this as a crucial time for the product and I have to make sure that features get completed rather than features added. And that seems like a struggle. We need to finish features. And I’m stressed about it.

Last I understood, we agreed that I would produce the outline (the powerpoint), and the videos. And that I would then get the book out. I also agreed to simplify the book along rothbardian lines, rather than construct it as an academic treatise.

Right now I seem to have dealt with philosophy per se, and have to work through the various institutions and possible combinations. It is much easier than the work on truth. But it is territory, some of which I will have to leave open for empirical analysis. I can only suggest possible solutions that I think will work, using general principles. And that bothers me.

The rest of the work is literally ‘fun’: applications of propertarian reasoning to all manner of moral questions.

Those take a few days of thought and then a day or two of work.

I gotta keep the guys happy or they’ll stick me in a tower somewhere until I”m done…. lol

    OVERSING UPDATE

Oversing is a full fledged application running in a browser, not a set of web pages that are repeatedly disposed of. And so we burden the browser pretty heavily. The past couple of days the guys are working on JS memory leaks that are more apparent when you manipulate the DOM rather than just terminate and load a new one.

My heroes. I would hang myself. lol

Its really cool to look at the Agile Board view of your workspace and see cards fly around as people work on them, and then we update automatically by websockets. It’s really terrific.

Seems like so much work left to do but really there is so much there now. It’s crazy. Enormous. But I’ve lost that concern that it will be hard to use or learn. It really isn’t. Sure, the workspace is a bit of a new paradigm, but not that much that it’s a stretch. I mean, we modeled it on working with an Excel spreadsheet for goodness sake. And we’ve added ‘modes’ of increasing complexity so that beginning users can just start out and see it as a sort of glorified email system. While at the other end a COO can really run the entire company from it.

Anyway. Just want to thank the guys for their hard work.

    Curt

While I’m happy with the videos, and have nearly finished with the powerpoint overview, between travel, illness, and working on the product, I haven’t made as much progress this month as I’d wanted. Posting the month’s work to the website made it more obvious – my mind has been occupied elsewhere.

I feel a little stuck, in that I’m not sure where to go next to understand western vulnerability to deceptions. Is it simply that we had trained ourselves for truth so deeply that we were vulnerable to saturation the way we were vulnerable to the church? Why is it that words have this power over us? Is Macdonald right? Altruism? Is that the cause? No one else displays it but us. So is that our weakness? No one else can create commons. No one else tells the truth. No one else practices altruism toward the commons?

I don’t even know how to go about answering this question. And I don’t know if I need to. Do I? I have solve pretty much the full suite of problems. Do I just need to work with what I have, and leave the underlying cause for others? I can solve problems of calculation – that is what I have been doing: that which is necessary. But I don’t really think answering the reason for our vulnerability – if its genetic and biologically driven, or normatively and habitually driven. Perhaps it doesn’t matter. The cure is the same both ways. I suppose I could try talking to Hu. But my experience is that the genetics people overplay the hand. From what I see most of our evolution is endocrinological and very little of it visibly more than that.

I have to give myself a bit more time, but I feel something is just sitting out there waiting for me to grab it, and I can’t quite figure out what.

    OVERSING UPDATE

Getting much closer to feature complete. Not sure yet how long from feature complete to release, but feature complete s getting close, and it is becoming very clear that nothing on the market compares.

    So cool.
