  • Russian Declaration

    Mar 3, 2020, 9:37 PM

“The Russian Federation, united by a thousand-year history, preserving the memory of the ancestors who transmitted to us the ideals and faith in God, as well as the continuity in the development of the Russian state, recognizes the historical state unity,”

Declares boundaries. May make claim on other territories by implication.

“The state language of the Russian Federation throughout its territory is Russian as the language of a state-forming people”

The declaration of the state and its assets as the property of the ethnically Russian people is an interesting development, that disambiguates nation state into ethno-state.

“The priority of Russian laws over international law (the amendment will allow not to comply with decisions of international courts, in particular the ECHR and the International Criminal Court);”

Good. Same needs be done for the USA.

“Restriction on the occupation of higher posts for persons who have *EVER* had a second citizenship or residence permit in another country;”

Well, that’s useful for at least three classes of people. immigrants, jews, a lot of the oligarchs and their families.

“Senior officials banned from having accounts or other assets abroad”

Asid from loyalties, this will bar many competitors for the presidency from competing with putin or his replacement.

  • Is Population Structure in The Genetic Biobank Era Irrelevant, a Challenge, or A

Is Population Structure in The Genetic Biobank Era Irrelevant, a Challenge, or An Opportunity? https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00439-019-02014-8 Abstract Replicable genetic association signals have consistently been found through genome-wide association studies in recent years. The recent dramatic expansion of study sizes improves power of estimation of effect sizes, genomic prediction, causal inference, and polygenic selection, but it simultaneously increases susceptibility of these methods to bias due to subtle population structure. Standard methods using genetic principal components to correct for structure might not always be appropriate and we use a simulation study to illustrate when correction might be ineffective for avoiding biases. New methods such as trans-ethnic modeling and chromosome painting allow for a richer understanding of the relationship between traits and population structure. We illustrate the arguments using real examples (stroke and educational attainment) and provide a more nuanced understanding of population structure, which is set to be revisited as a critical aspect of future analyses in genetic epidemiology. We also make simple recommendations for how problems can be avoided in the future. Our results have particular importance for the implementation of GWAS meta-analysis, for prediction of traits, and for causal inference.

Ryan Drummond: I often tell Alice: “I don’t feel like I really live a human life any more. I just walk around processing information and responding to stimuli accordingly. It’s strange. But it gets things done in accordance with natural law.” I think once you start unpacking things in that sort of way – you feel more machine than man. But there is a deep, deep comfort in it. And an immense sense of control and understanding. Eric Danelaw:  yeah. let’s commiserate. 😉 It’s kind of creepy. But you have SO MUCH AGENCY. Ryan Drummond:  I think I will always find it a bit creepy, yet comforting. But not quite comforting enough…because Agency is omniscience and omnipresence, and I certainly have neither of those. Perhaps that’s why I find it creepy… We have much more work to do as a species…

  • “Encouraging Fellow Germans out Of Victim Mentality”

“ENCOURAGING FELLOW GERMANS OUT OF VICTIM MENTALITY” by Daniel Gurpide With the purpose of encouraging my German comrades to grow out of an unhelpful and debilitating victim mentality, let me add my two friendly cents: Modern Germany (1871) had the potential to rejuvenate old Europe, to extend the European age, and the primacy OF Europe, in the world for centuries to come. They destroyed this prospect because of their obsession with their own primacy IN Europe, finally and perhaps irrevocably, during the II WW. Often stronger, and on occasion more thoughtful than others, Germans, from Nietzsche to Spengler to even Hitler, would speak of the dangers to Western civilization, to the race, and to Europe. In practice, instead of consolidating europe, they would mightily contribute to the perils of the West, of Europe, and in the end, of their own Germany. There is no isolated virtue. Perhaps the very introspective qualities of the Germans obscured their better understanding of other peoples. Through a kind of offensive shortsightedness, together with an eventually disastrous alliance, they threw themselves into the First World War. The traditional order of Europe was mortally wounded during that struggle. The wounds of the German people were terrible, but far from mortal. They were sick at being treated with a great deal of injustice, as pariahs among the nations of Europe, at least for a while. Soon they would rise again and treat in turn, with far more injustice, the other nations of Europe as their pariahs. Let us also not forget that in 1917 the Kaiser and his Prussians (self-proclaimed champions of Western civilization) chose to make it possible for Lenin to re-enter Russia. In 1939 the anti-Bolshevik Hitler and his nazis chose to make it possible for Stalin to re-enter Europe. They were very successful in the short run. They destroyed themselves in the long run. Would the Bolsheviks have been able to make their revolution in 1917 if Lenin had stayed closeted in Zurich, or would Stalin have been able to get to Warsaw, not to speak of Berlin, if Hitler had not started the IIWW?

  • But Can We Do It?

Mar 14, 2020, 10:43 AM I tend to stick to definitions, incentives, the law of reciprocity and universal applicability, but this group has put out three statements about women’s pre-conscious behaviors over the past few days that are explanatory, insightful, and terrifying. The question is, can we state those behaviors under the definition of “Mankind”? Yes, I know so. Can we regulate against them in the law? I think so. Can we educate women to control them? I don’t know. And the reason I don’t know is the female bias we seek to train, evolved specifically to resist training. In case that isn’t clear, if you can’t be trained then you aren’t capable of soveriegnty under the natural law. And that has vast and dangerous consequences for ‘equal standing’ and ‘equal application’.
