ENDING THE MONOPOLY GOVERNMENT
“European history over the last thousand years has been the almost steady growth of public authority and the public services. ” – via Quigley
“What are your thoughts on Robert Nisbet’s angle on the cause of that growth. Namely, that the growth of the western state is largely the result of an absorption of the functions previously specialized-in by associations such as the family, militia, church, etc.” – contrafabian
1) These are subtle differences in understanding as generations pass and we learn more.
2) The more scientific presentation is not ‘community’ but ‘commons’ since it is commons we seek to produce – and that other people can’t produce equally as well. I use ‘commons’.
3) I agree that the absorption of functions into the state violates trifunctionalism and violates the traditional success of western civ by creating a monopoly rather than competing institutions specifically serving the classes.
4) I would criticize the failure of the church’s function of indoctrination, education, family, and insurer system because of the failure of the church to reform in the 1800’s, and the terrible crime of incorporating that sequence into the state has weakened our civilization.
5) My work restores the competition between elites and classes and eliminates the monopoly, leaving the state as a) Monarchy, Military, Judiciary, Sheriffs and Militia, b) the Interior, Treasury, and Congress, and c) the ‘church’ secular or not as the institution of the family.
6) This would provide three tax-raising agencies: one for necessary services (military, judiciary, police, militia); one for commercial commons production (govt); one for education and family (church, education, health, retirement) competing for revenue.
7) Combined with economic voting, prohibition on unions in those industries, and an obligation to serve in militia, interior(commons), or church-hospital, we might be able to restore individual responsibility and accountability.
