(steel manning) 1) Not sure that follows. Was the war strategically useful or necessary? In retrospect, it was better to maintain iraq-iran equilibrium, and ME (artificial) states aren’t ready for rule of law or participatory govt. Did the war succeed? Yes. Did toppling govt? No.

Almost to the individual, the people in congress are true believers – except for occasional outliers. It’s incredibly difficult to get elected to Congress. That does not mean that they hold beneficial beliefs, nor that they have the competence to choose, advocate or legislate.
