@NateSilver538 What’s the argument for lumping the Pacific Northwest and California together? Treating the entire US West Coast as a mono-culture doesn’t make a lot of sense and seems like a very “East Coast” thing to do.

Some of the regions that aren’t necessarily all that populous are VERY distinct culturally, etc., e.g. Appalachia, Louisiana, south Florida, Hawaii.
