Better to think of monarchies as intergenerational custodians. It is clearly better to have intergenerational families make profits or loss from rule (arts and limits) and a rotating middle class for governance (commons). Conflating rule and governance has been one of our three largest errors:

1) conflating rule and governance

2) not expanding houses for the classes.

3) repeating the roman error of the unearned franchise.

We know China won’t spin off HK, and we know China will win this. If China wants to get this over without a lot more trouble, they could offer a compromise for HK to basically pay more tribute (taxes) to China in exchange for China backing off on extradition.
