The quality of people in Austin is much higher than the quality of people in NYC. This has to do with the legacy demographics of NYC vs Austin and the character of people that pursue tech’s productive industries versus finance, advertising, media, acting: the parasitic industries
If you are a young, educated person, with ambitions, there is no comparison between the two. NYC carries a long burden of bad judgments and specializes in old industries. Boston lost tech to SF. CA is losing tech to Texas. Boston held bio. NY finance/media. Texas is the future.
Let’s take it further: NYC is following Baltimore, Detroit, and Chicago into sh–hole status. The next major ‘reformation’ of the financial sector (soon) will do to NYC what happened to Detroit-Auto, Boston-Tech, and CA industry. 2008 was just the beginning.
Globalism ended. The USA cannot continue pay for the world patterns of defense, trade, finance, and law. We can’t win a 4G war. We can’t project power. We have no competitive advantage other than the dollar, and it’s at increasing risk.
We lack the population, the demographics (we’re dropping below the minimum threshold for a democracy), and our only strategic advantage is that we occupy an enormous island separated from eurasia.
It takes 1B people to compete. We don’t have the resources. What we do have is the ability to produce food.

Connecticut: Continued hispanic and black expansion and white flight. The only whites that haven’t left Connecticut are those that can’t afford to. Second to California in adoption of Soviet ideas, and second behind California in decline. Mass had the shock of the tech exit, CT doubled down.
