I would argue that they are the people closest to europeans – at least germans. They were least affected by bad ideas, and even buddhism didn’t really take root without political coercion. That does not mean they developed abstract reasoning (subject covered by Samuel Huntington)

Now,some cultures cannot pursue adulting because there is such a drag by the lower classes and such laziness in the middle and upper classes (often b/c of hot climate) that it’s impossible to institutionalize formal thought.
