    Europe has been populated for a long time but Europeans as we recognize ourselves are a relatively recent, cutting-edge phenomenon. We are a northern artifact of the secondary products revolution on the verge of the Neolithic-Metal age

    Case on point: the earliest archeological evidence of a nuclear family is from a copper age German tumulus.

  • The “Event” That Created Ethnic Europeans

    THE “EVENT” THAT CREATED ETHNIC EUROPEANS by Simon Ström Yamnaya + Funnelbeaker Neolithic is the final admixture event, and it began already in the 4th millennium BC in PIE Ukraine, if not earlier. The two populations welded together on the material horizon from which the oldest wooden wheels are found–in the region of intersection of sedentary agriculturalists and mounted pastoralists–resulting in the Europe_LNBA genetic cluster, which rapidly expanded in all directions (the essence of Mathieson et al. 2018 and Olalde et al. 2018), displacing the Neolithic Germans, Scandinavians and Britons (who in turn had displaced the Cheddar folk, way earlier…) without significant admixture. This genetic structure is preserved to this day in contemporary Northern Europeans. Iberia, Italy, the Balkans and Central Asia received substantial admixture from Europe_LNBA, but only Iberians have since remained genetically spared from further Y-DNA J-mediated admixture arriving in southeastern Europe from Anatolia and the Levant (still in prehistoric times it seems, not related to the Roman Empire) and Turco-Mongol admixture in Central Asia (before and during the historical era).

The Western offshoots à la Corded Ware remained isolated from the rest of the world and the practice fortunately faded out of existence. You still had Bell Beakers invading Iberia and Italy and thus producing modern Spaniards and Italians. But Northern Europe was relatively unpopulated compared to the rest of Europe, which allowed the Corded Ware culture to create a very homogenous pan-North European genetic cluster which has persisted without change for the past 5000 years or more. That’s probably a world record. They were probably helped in eliminating exogamy by the cultures of the Early European Farmers that they encountered and mixed with – although there was no more mixture after that! Then there’s also the fact that General Cognitive Ability started increasing after this final admix event, which cemented the modern North European cluster. Perhaps they were getting too smart and no longer considered their foreign neighbours to be viable partners.
