    Trying to make a short demo video for Oversing for the home page. It’s killing me. How do you do a demo for something that big? I am too close to the product, I know.

    You have Slack, Trello, Asana, and maybe Mavenlink at the low end of the market. You have Jira above them in the technical market. You have the Microsoft, oracle, and SAP stacks at the top of the market.

    Oversing looks and feels like a mix of all of them. The buyer is not the end user like slack trello and asana – or even Jira. The buyer is at the middle or senior management level.

    Why? Because Oversing enforces process and policy through workflows. Sure, our workflows can be configured by power users – they’re pretty intuitive. But you can create organizational policy. And you can do it in multi-language, multi-currency, complex organizational structures, with different processes.

    Now, when we show it to developers they ‘get it’ and love it. And sure, they’re our first market.

    But it’s not just for in-house development so much as for agencies and consultancies and service companies.

    Oversing is to profit and loss organizations as Jira and Confluence are to help desk and production organizations. Oversing is to the enterprise as slack, trello, asana and mavenlik are to small businesses.

    So when we demo oversing, we show the accounting stuff first, then the workflows, then the user experience. Otherwise people get anchored.

    So I have to script this video somehow that shows off the heavy duty parts of the product without terrifying the end user. I suppose I can lay it out in the first bit with an illustration of some sort….

    Hmmm…. tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you told them.

    Keep it basic because all of the features will have individual short videos anyway.

    Writing Forecasting section today. Tried yesterday. Should have taken the day off and just slept. I was useless.

    Today it’s going well, but it makes me realize that it’s a science when you’re trying to accommodate every possible method of getting work done.

    By the time I hit the final revision it’ll be a lesson in running a business. lol. Killing me.

    In the future, if you cannot program, meaning, that if you cannot employ strict existential constructions, then you will be treated the same way we treat people who speak in religious metaphor today.

    Perhaps that will be the next line of demarcation: those with the mental ability to construct verbal proofs as we construct mathematical or logical proofs.

    This will harden the IQ barrier thats somewhere above 105.

    Still headed toward an (alpha) early beta the end of the month. Although I have reservations, and am skeptical, it’s still looks possible assuming a lot comes together next week.

    The main issue that I see is whether we can fix the Agenda panels, the forecasting, and whether we can make progress showing the appointments. I think that’s another month of work myself.

    And the lack of updates by websockets in some places is … noticeable.

    After that another 60 days of annoying little stuff while we’re in beta and we should be ready to start taking money.

    ON DOCUMENTATION

    Yesterday I got through all of the Workspace UI that I can do. Today I’ll work on Forecasting (reserving time, and measuring forecasting performance).

    Next I have to work on the how-to sections. (which is more natural to write really)

    Then after that the advanced issues. It’s a very time consuming process. The app is enormous and there are multiple ways of doing almost everything.

    ON FEDERATION

    Kirill got the work done much faster than I’d ever imagined. Now it’s all the billing, and data sync.

    So you will be able to buy an instance (sort of how slack does it) and switch between instances.

    ON REPORTS

    I haven’t seen progress on reports. Alexey tends to do big updates. I’ll hopefully get some information on Friday.

    ON RESOURCING AND FINANCIAL PROCESSING

    Resourcing, Forecasting, Period and Financial processing all have sufficient nits in them that they’re just not ready.

    So we’ll soldier onward. 🙂

    When you see a word or excel or outlook or sharepoint or CRM or Dynamics or SAP or Netsuite do these tools look easy to use?

    Do you know how much anxiety microsoft has spent trying to simplify the UI for word?

    Oversing is easier to use than any of these products. And by the time we challenge Outlook it will be obvious.

    But oversing is not FAMILIAR.

    Familiarity takes time.

    But oversing is very simple to use.
