    CHINESE MONETARY THOUGHTS I HEARD FROM A MOUSE

    We all know that the Chinese have been running around the world buying up all possible resources.

    But interestingly enough it turns out that they’re buying them in dollars and dollar denominated accounts, and securing them against their holding of US bonds.

    Now you can look at this a couple of ways.

    First, It could be that that buyers have greater faith in the dollar than the Renminbi. And so the price for assets is lower if paid in dollars.

    Second, it could be that the Chinese expect our dollar to explode and that if it does, they will leave the rest of the world holding the bag.

    Third, it could be that by spreading US debt around the world, it becomes possible to use the entire debt structure as an economic alliance against what the USA must do at some point, which is destroy the value of the dollar.

    Or. Of course. All of the above. Now, ‘nice folk’ don’t think in these kind of terms. But you know, I do, and I know that there are other people in the world who think like me. And it’s not ‘nice folk’ I’m worried about.

    It’s people like me.

    My opinion: Ukrainian women are the not only the most beautiful, but the most elegant and noble women in the world. Femininity is power. It is a power we men don’t have.     (COURT OF SILLY IDEAS) PROBLEMS WITH ANY NEW CIVIC ‘CHURCH’

    One of the primary reasons we live in little isolated boxes is so that we can create our own illusion of status. We hate it when that status is challenged. But it is a status of our own construction. We are sold this fantasy by Government, Universities, Advertisers, and in some cases, lenders.

    We could ‘buy’ that status cheaply because the ‘Blue Period’ of american postwar prosperity made it possible to transfer people from farm and apartment, to industry and home. But there is no reason that this can continue. Those conditions no longer exist. We are just spending our heritage, and impoverishing the future thanks to baby boomers. (I am Jones, not Boomer, generation.)

    One of the things going to ‘church’ or whatever public ceremony you choose, does, is contextualize your status. And for some people that’s good. For some it’s unnecessary. And for others it’s downright unpleasant because its contradictory.

    If some civic gathering (feast ritual) on a regular basis is status producing, personally advantageous, or economically advantageous, then I assume people would go. But the problem is creating that environment in modernity. Right now it’s the false promise of academia. Academia just sorts. It doesn’t teach us anything.

    THE CIVIC SOCIETY

    What I think all of us want is the true commitment of community. And that institution CANNOT be the state. The state can only apply violence. That is all it can do. WIthout the extended family, we require the civic society and the state has stolen it from us.

    NEEDS

    1) Rituals (christening, maturity, education, wedding, death)

    2) Festivals (holidays)

    3) Education (technical, civil-ethical, historical, literary)

    4) Banking

    5) Personal Financial Management

    6) Insurance

    7) Elder advice and counsel.

    Most of this would be fairly easy to accomplish with the professionalization of teaching, banking and insurance.

    More development of the thesis that the Anglo nuclear family is central to economic prosperity. (In my view, central to the development of extra-familial trust.)

    I think their optimistic vision of the future is worth whatever any other silly person’s vision of the future is worth. Not much. History shows that economics and demographics determine outcomes and our economics and demographics are a serious problem. But their analysis of the nuclear family as the primary means of cultural indoctrination in the anglo model is quite good.

    I don’t like to participate in this debate much (Even though I’ve lost a couple of hundred thousand dollars investing in the climate scare.) I’d rather wait until I see the evidence. It bothered me that the INCENTIVES were problematic. It bothered me that it was used as a political tool. But being bothered isn’t evidence one way or another.

    But it’s pretty clear that while we’re putting chemistry into the atmosphere, that the sun, not us, is the primary determinant of climate. We’re heading into an ice age. And from that perspective, perhaps CO2 will help keep us warmer? 🙂

    Its in the economic incentive of the press to lie, underreport, overreport and mislead. The only way free press has any meaning is if you can’t charge money for your reporting. We don’t need the press. Boggers roll up ideas better than does the press, along multiple ideological lines. The press has lost it’s pulpit and that’s great. Because the pulpit sold marxism and proletarianism to the masses as a virtue. THe press made vice into virtue.

    Burn them at the stake? Well. Virtually maybe. 🙂
