All you can do is practice how you respond to feelings. That skill is mindfulness. Not in the new age version of the word. But in the old: Skill at self monitoring.

The only answer I know of is stoicism. Whether you obtain it as my sister and I did by accident, or by intent, it works. You may not be able to train your emotions but you can easily train your reaction to your emotions and impulses.
