The problem arises when officers of a state refuse to obey the court, AND federal officials refuse to obey the court AND to enforce the ruling of the court, THEN rule of law vaporizes, and we are left with no monarchy as judge of last resort, and the only solution is civil war.

AFAIK a state can only violate a judgment of the supreme court if it is beyond their constitutional authority. Their constitutional authority is outlined in the constitution, bill of rights, and amendments. Among those is the right to bear arms.
What happens then when states do?
