There are six thousand firms involved in the complex network of producers for making high end chips. Five thousand of those firms are dependent upon one firm: ASML (Dutch). This is the most sophisticated technology man currently produces. So the problem is that this global chip ‘ecosystem’ is extremely fragile, and without the american system of global finance, transport, trade, and law, then that system doesn’t exist. If you know the parable of ‘I Pencil’ it’s many orders of magnitude beyond it. And this is frightening: we have lost technology many times in our human history. So if we have a war, there will be a three to seven year stall in tech and innovation.
