Warren Buffet (@MrWarrenBuffet ) had read every book on the stock market in the library by age 11. I’d read every volume of every encyclopedia in the library multiple times by age 13. Rudyard Lynch (@whatifalthist) was doing comparative history by then. And Elon Musk (@elonmusk ) reading philosophy (even german) not long after. I started working holidays and some weekends by age eight. This weekend I spent time with men who started working for parents before twelve. Getting an early start so that you’re learning rather than re-learning later in life matters. The question is why do some of us develop such interests early and some of us not?

Self Determination, Agency, and Responsibility – it’s the ultimate competitive advantage. But youth needs a venue or context for developing them. Or artificial childhood is the consequence – and that consequence is playing out with horrific effects throughout our civilization.
