I’ve been a 1%’er for a long time, traveled, married, bought sold and run businesses around the world, explored the landscape, the monuments, the cultures, the food and the people.
After a while, it’s boring an tedious. Especially if you’re an economist and behavioral economist and see past the shallow surface of it all.
The simple folk dream of that form of hyperconsumption.
But when you have money, and have hyperconsumed a bit, you find that home, family, friends, and an intellectual pursuit have more fulfilling than further attempts at what is now boring instead of novelty.
Travel the world. Try to have a meaningful conversation about anything substantive (and true) with anyone other than a european. You’ll be horrified.
We ‘think different’. Tho much of the world is catching on because of the ubiquity of the internet.
