WHY DID PUTIN ANNEX: Russian law prohibits Putin from conscription for use outside or RU territory. By annexation he has internal justification for continuing his war by expanding conscription. RU cannot train, arm, or supply it’s soldiers. Putin is betting on general winter to break the coalition and get him to the bargaining table. That’s not going to work. So AFAIK, he will try to claim he will escalate with nukes. US DOD+State have told RU directly what they would do if that happened – that info leaked yesterday. It was more aggressive than I’d expected. and would instantly defeat the russian military at unrecoverable costs. The purpose of this strategy is to use the RU military to prevent the use of nuclear weapons, because those military generals have local command independent of putin for exactly this reason.
