MAGICAL THINKING IS A NECESSITY FOR NEARLY HALF OF MANKIND.
The only consequence is participatory government. In the past the church governed moral matters. the manor disciplinary matters. the court property matters. And the high courts murder. I’m not convinced that we don’t need the equivalent of church courts. And I’m increasinly convinced the majority are unfit for participatory government, in matters of economics politics and straetgy. And the state, and state courts, in absence of church court, has proven a vehicle for immorality.

(small town life)
I use my card for the meter. Leave it in too long so it doesn’t work. Little old lady nearby offers me quarters. I get my card to work. I thank her. We talk. After, she askes me to say a prayer for her. I agree, smile. She asks if I believe in god, jesus and the virgin mary. I answer yes of course. We smile. 😉 (I believe belief is necessary for her, and I refuse to deprive her of any comfort she derives from it. ) I walk away, and say god bless you dear. A black man mid forties is just finishing crossing the street. He asks if I”ll say one for him too, and smiles. I walk over and shake his hand. We smile. Laugh. And go about our business. I believe in acting as did jesus – because the evidence of the consequence of all of us doing so is overwhelming. I don’t need faith, or church, I just need evidence. But other people need more. And we can’t deprive them of it.

A thought: Devotion to religious fiction in the commons is tolerable if its commands seek to enable cooperation in accordance with the laws of the universe.

@curtdoolittle
Correct. Well done.

@mariohostios
💯👌If Santa Claus’ list keeps you nice then it’s doing it’s job.

@curtdoolittle
The problem remains whether any form of magical thinking that benefits one psychologically interpersonally and socially – even those that have aggregate social benefits – conflicts with, impedes or prohibits rational and empirical thinking at economic, political, strategic scale.

@mariohostios
That sounds more like a reality than a problem- I’ve no clue how to solve it.

@curtdoolittle
It’s more likely that the problem of human need for magical thinking and their vulnerability to it (Woke) is unsolvable. And that means majoritarian democracy, even under it’s constraint by our constitution of Concurrent, Common, Natural Law is impossible

@mariohostios
That’s prescious insight. In a world of influencers you are a thought trailblazer.
