The neoteny of the hunter gatherers survived through preservation of the host of neoteny: european females. Both the Anatolian farmer invasion and especially the ANE-Steppe invasion of males contributed to European sexual dimorphism and variation in coloring. Fascinating.

@razibkhan RAZIB (all) as a child I took comfort in the mystery that the same people had produced the hunter-gatherer, agrarian-monolith, and iron age civilizations, only to discover a long history of technological change by population replacement. Childhood fantasies continue to perish. 😉
