3/3 So I went to the court to get the name change paperwork and they were adamant that in the USA you can make up any name you want “even the alphabet if you want to”. This is crazy. In France the state can reject the name you give your kid if it’s ‘saddling them’ with ‘oddity’.

2/3. Doing all that work got me thinking: Well, “Doolittle” might be a respectable name given my ancestors, but it’s been a curse most of my life. I mean, Curt=Short and Doolittle=Does Little. So,why not just choose one of my maternal side’s surnames?
Even the French ones. 😉 …
