When the riots were spreading around the bigger cities the men who owned shops on main street stood on the sidewalk with shotguns, while others took photographs as a warning that the race riots would not spread to our little farm town.

My father grabbed an older kid that was terrorizing me by the neck and lifted him off the ground, and gave him a threatening talking to, and with a message to deliver to his father – which immediately fixed the problem.
