Mastering empathy, intuition, reason, and calculation are slightly different skills. I know, at least for me, the revolution in my thought occurred when i focused less on reasoning, and more on getting more information, and listening carefully to my intuition, and letting it do its job, and learning to ignore my like or dislike, interest or lack of interest, leaving only pure patterns remaining. It’s like ‘being mentally quiet so you can listen carefully’. And when reasoning I do it in writing as calculating. So just as say, a mathematician or physicist tries equation after equation and thought experiment after thought experiment, I try to construct operational arguments from different directions. Math is a language. Engineering is. Programming is. Operationalism is. Law using operationalism is. So it’s the same process. What I learned from a lifetime is that of the faculties, reason is the worst of all, because it is the least guarded against error, and the most influenced by biases.
