“SO THAT THE TRUE CAN BE MADE BEAUTIFUL, BUT THE MERELY BEAUTIFUL CANNOT BE MISTAKEN FOR TRUTH.”
—“Joyce said truth is apprehended by the intellect which is appeased by the most satisfying relations of the intelligible. Beauty is beheld by the imagination which is appeased by the most satisfying relations of the sensible. Think lit has more to do with the latter than the former. It’s philosophical only secondarily.”—Tim Beckley
Damn! See? That’s why we need poetry, literature, philosophy, law and science. So that the true can be made beautiful, but the merely beautiful cannot be mistaken for truth.
