—“The average or ‘normie’ conservative is not that much different than the average liberal. It’s harder to define what polarizes people in the middle to one side or the other. They certainly do polarize, and it can happen in relation to very specific traits or sympathies, but nevertheless they still share many overlapping traits or sympathies. We probably tend to think of the NAXALTs as outliers who are at the end of a spectrum, but they are more likely to fall somewhere in the middle of a spectrum where things are most variable. Trait Z may be extremely common in the left wing, and far less common on the right, but the place where conservatives will exhibit it most is probably somewhere towards the middle.”—Jennifer Dean
