AFAIK, pairing off via serial monogamy with discreet cheating that doesn’t insult the other party is the sort of median – but we adapt to monogamy-polygamy or serial marriage, or serial marriage with ‘cheating’ pretty easily. Religion imposed monogamy because men kill over women.
